2nd place for PK-Carsport in Adria

17 May 2009

In the traditional FIA GT night race in Adria, Italy, PK-Carsport brought home a 2nd place with their Corvette C6R. Starting from 5th position, the team was able to move up to 2nd position during the first pitstop and maintain that position to the end of the race.

PK-Carsport is now 3rd in the team championship standings while Anthony Kumpen and Mike Hezemans are 2nd in the driver standings. Next race will take place in Oschersleben, Germany.

Victory and 2nd place for Cazenave and Police in Dijon moves DKR up to 2nd in Championship

11 May 2009

The 3rd and 4th round of the FFSA GT Championship saw the DKR Corvette C5R of Laurent Cazenave and Jean Claude Police take a deserved victory in the first race and a surprise second place in the next one.

The DKR C6R driven by Eric Debard and Kurt Mollekens (replacing Olivier Panis) took pole position for both races, while the C6R qualified 2nd and third respectively. Police could take the lead quite early in the first race and never gave it away. Mollekens brought the C6R in 2nd making it a 1-2 for the team.

Although the C5R was penalized with 80kg following its victory in the previous race, Cazenave and Police were able to score a surprising 2nd place in the 4th championship race. They were helped a bit by the fact that Mollekens, then in 2nd place, was hit by the Saleen.

This result means that Police and Cazenave now find themselves 2nd in the driver standings, while DKR takes the lead in the team's championship. It also means that in the next race in Magny Cours, the C5R will carry a ballast of 120kg!

4th place for PK-Carsport C6R in Silverstone FIA GT Round 1

4 May 2009

The first round of this year's FIA GT Championship resulted in a fourth place for Anthony Kumpen and Mike Hezemans in the PK-Carsport Corvette C6R. Starting from fourth position the team was in a constant battle with the C6R of Alphand Adventures driven by Moreau and Maassen.

The race was eventually won by the K+K Saleen of Karl Wendlinger and Ryan Sharp.

First 2009 podium finish is a fact...

15 April 2009

The first race of the FFSA French GT Championship in Nogaro brought 2 podiumfinishes for DKR Engineering.

The Corvette C5R of Laurent Cazenave and Jean-Claude Police took pole position for the first race. Police took an early lead just until the pitstop. A starting problem dropped the car back to 4th just behind 5 times World Rally Champion Sebastian Loeb. Halfway his stint Cazenave was able to pas Loeb's Ferrari and finish in third position. The DKR C6R of Olivier Panis and Eric Debard finished 4th.

Cazenave started the 2nd race in 2nd position, a position he was able to hold until just before the pitstops. A backmarker collided with the C5R and half a minute was lost. Police took over after the pitstop and after an impressive second stint he was able to fight himself back to 4th position. Meanwhile, the C6R of Panis/Debard was able to finish in 3rd position.

Racing program 2009

28 March 2009

This year I will be active in 2 championships with 2 different teams. With my regular team PK-Carsport I will do the FIA GT Championship again. Their Saleen S7R has been replaced by a Corvette C6R which will be driven by Mike Hezemans and Anthony Kumpen.

With DKR Engineering, a Belgian team based in Gemmenich, I will work as an engineer in the French GT Championship. The team enters a Corvette C6R for ex-F1 driver Olivier Panis and Eric Debard and a Corvette C5R for Jean-Claude Police and Laurent Cazenave. The C5R is actually the car that was run in FIA GT by PK-Carsport from 2005 to 2007.

TECHNICAL - Version 2 of Shock Speed histogram spreadsheet

16 January 2009

I've put a new version online of the shock speed histogram spreadsheet. The first version proved to be a popular download so I decided to bring it 'up to date'.

The biggest improvement of the spreadsheet is the integration of 'box plots'. These graphs give the user a better visual impression of the shock speed distribution which makes it easier to define the areas where shock tuning is necessary.

Further there are now 4 reports being generated:

  • Shock speed statistics report
  • Shock speed histogram report
  • Shock speed histogram comparison between 2 configurations
  • Shock speed box plot comparison between 2 configurations

The spreadsheet offers the possibility to import shock speed data from any data acquisition system capable of exporting to .csv format.

Version 2 of the shock speed histogram spreadsheet can be downloaded here. An update of the manual will be put online very soon with a more detailed explanation on the use of shock speed box plots. The current version of the manual can be downloaded here.

TECHNICAL - Chassissim Online version now available

That last lap in San Luis...

14 December 2008

Here's another video clip of the last 2008 FIA GT race in Argentina. This one shows the last lap and this time with English comments...

Saleen project ends with victory in Argentina!

24 November 2008

On the brand new Argentine track at Potrero de los Funes, San Luis PK-Carsport scored a very contested victory with their Saleen S7R. Starting from 5th, the team was able to move up into third position after the first round of pitstops. Kumpen moved into second past the #6 Phoenix Corvette shortly before the 2nd pitstop but lost that position again as this car was on another strategy.

This then became the fight for the lead as the leading #5 Corvette crashed out of the race. Longin was able to pass Hezemans with only 4 laps to go and the 2 cars battled it out right up to the finish line.

The result enabled the team to move up in the final championship standings to a fine 6th position.

The following video is Bert Longin's qualifying lap, synchronized with the data recorded by the Motec data logging system.

The following 2 videos are a summary of the race (with spanish commentary).

What people are saying about 'Analysis Techniques for Racecar Data Acquisition'...

17 June 2008

These are just a few of the reactions following SAE's publication of my book:

"This is an important subject and an important book. There's only one other good book on subject and it's out of print and very expensive. I believe this book will be widely used  by raceteams everywhere for a long time... You only need this one book to do the
analysis job, not several books. Every team needs this book!"

Bill Milliken, Author of the bestseller 'Race Car Vehicle Dynamics'

"Our deep congratulations for the publication of your book !
Everyone at Mosa joins me to wish you great success with it.
As a matter of fact, the SAE Motorsport recognition itself is already
a promise of success !"

Marc Raway - Director Mosa Frein

"It's interesting and adapted to nowadays data analysis works in a race team. Good job !!!"

Jordi Riba, Simulation & Data Analysis engineer SEAT SPORT

"I have always believed in the book, but was pleasantly surprised at the reaction to it at the SAE World Congress. In particular, Bill Milliken was enthusiastic about the job you did writing it. Bill and his son, Doug, wrote SAE’s best-selling title, Race Car Vehicle Dynamics. I feel this is pretty high praise from the man who wrote “the bible” on race car vehicle dynamics and you can be very proud of that."

Martha Swiss, Intellectual Property Manager SAE

"I received my copy of your book in the mail yesterday and just wanted to congratulate you on it - on first glance it offers a lot of detail and I've immediately spotted a couple of things I can add to my analysis."

Ben Michell, Development engineer Dunlop Motorsport

"I read most of the book over the weekend, it is excellent in my opinion. Absolutely the best in print, probably best ever published."

Dr. Andrew Durant, Director Race Technology UK

"Proficiat met je boek. Ik heb hem alvast ontvangen en ga er eerstdaags aan beginnen."

Marc Goossens, racecar driver

"Een duidelijk boek waar de basisbeginselen van datalogging uitgelegd worden. Aanbevolen door ALBI Engineering! "

Erik Albertsma, Albi Engineering

PK Carsport regains Belcar Championship lead

30 September 2007

A double program last weekend for PK Carsport resulted in a 7th place for David Hart and Kurt Mollekens in the penultimate round of the Belcar Championship in Spa, while at the same time in Nogaro Anthony Kumpen and Bert Longin scored an 8th place in the 9th FIA GT Round.

Hart and Mollekens' performance enabled PK Carsport to regain the championship lead. With one more round to go, the team is now on equal points with GPR.

In the FIA GT Championship the only championship chance left relies on the outcome of the team's appeal against the Oscherschleben disqualification.

3rd Place in Brno

23 September 2007

PK Carsport bounced back from a disappointing qualifying session to finish 3rd in the Czech round of the FIA GT Championship. Anthony Kumpen was able to pass the Maserati of Bertolini on the very last lap thus scoring the team's 5th podium of the season.

Dramatic weekend for PK-Carsport

13 September 2007

Picture courtesy of Kim van der Stichelen

PK-Carsport's Corvette Z06 was badly damaged last weekend in the Zolder 24 Hours when a gearbox oil hose broke and the car caught fire. Thanks to Kurt Mollekens, who was driving the car at the moment the fire broke out and who was able to put the car in a safe place and to the quick reaction of the marshalls the damage is repairable.

The team however did score the maximum amount of points after 6 hours and another 2 after 12 hours which puts them now second in the championship only 1.5 points behind the GPR Porsche of Soulet/Dumarey with only 2 races to go.

In Adria, Italy where the 7th round of the FIA GT Championship took place Anthony Kumpen, while in 3rd position, was pushed of the track by another competitor which damaged the car's power steering. Bert Longin did a great job driving the car for 80 minutes without power steering. Unfortunately the team finished only in 10th position.

Victory in Oscherschleben ends in disqualification

21 July 2007

The PK Carsport Corvette was driven to a dominant victory by Anthony Kumpen and Bert Longin in Oscherschleben, Germany during the 5th round of the FIA GT Championship.

However, after the race, the team got disqualified for a fueltank volume of 101,26L where only 100L is allowed. PK Carsport appealed against this decision but the FIA International Court of Appeal upheld the decision. The team is now considering taking the case to the Tribunal Court.

Racing around the world's 2nd largest building in Bucharest, Romania

20 May 2007

The 3rd round of the 2007 FIA GT Championship took place last weekend in Bucharest, Romania. For the first time in 10 years the championship visited a street course. The track was built around the Parliament building, which has the 2nd largest surface of any building in the world after the Pentagon. The weather played a crucial role in the race as it never seized raining during the 2-hour competition.

PK Carsport scored a 5th place which keeps them currently in 2nd position in the championship standings.

Excellent season start for the PK Carsport Corvettes

2 April 2007

The 2007 FIA GT season started out excellent for Anthony Kumpen and Bert Longin in the PK Carsport Corvette C5R. They finished their first race in Zhuhai in 3rd position. The pairing was competitive all weekend and only a badly timed safety car spoiled their chances for victory.

7 days later the 2 made their GT3 debut with the Corvette Z06 GT3 in the Belcar series. PK Carsport went on where they stopped with the GT1 Corvette in 2006 by winning the first race from pole position.

PK Carsport Corvette Z06 shakedown in Abbeville - France

14 March 2007

This wednesday we gave the Corvette Z06 GT3 for this year's Belcar championship it's first roll-out. At the Stadium Automobile in Abbeville, France the Z06 was put through its first kilometers.

In the garage where we were located in we found the following car to our surprise.

This was Henrik Roos' Viper in which he and Magnus Wallinder made their FIA GT debut in 2002. I worked on this car for 3 races (Anderstorp & Donington FIA GT and Zandvoort Euro GT) with a 2nd place in Zandvoort as highlight.

According to the track supervisor the car has been bought by a French team that uses it for track days.

GLPK wins Belcar GT 2006

22 october 2006

With a victory in the last Belcar race of the season in Zolder, GLPK Carsport was assured of the Teams Belcar GT Championship and GT1 Class Title, while Anthony Kumpen and Bert Longin clinched the drivers title. On top of that the team won the RACB national GT Championship and Corvette won the manufacturers championship.

This season GLPK scored 5 victories out of 7 races and finished 3rd in the Zolder 24 Hours. It was the last race for the Corvette C5R in Belcar as GT1 cars will no longer be allowed in 2007.

17 october 2006

Starting from 8th place, Mke Hezemans, Anthony Kumpen and Bert Longin finished 3rd in the one but last round of the FIA GT Championship. GLPK-Carsport takes 2nd in Budapest FIA GT Race

 3 october 2006

After a hard-fought 3-hour race, Mike Hezemans, Bert Longin and Anthony Kumpen finished a well-earned 2nd in last weekend's Budapest Supercar 500, the 8th round of the FIA GT Championship.

For the first time the Corvette C6R was equiped with Moton 3-way adjustable shock absorbers. A technical decision which proved to be a good one. All drivers reported an improved handling of the car and logical reactions to set-up changes.

This race was all about race strategy and pitstops as the Hungaroring racetrack doesn't lend itself to well for overtaking. However, the key moment of the race was when Anthony Kumpen took 2nd from Fabio Babini in the BMS Aston Martin in a spectacular overtaking action.

With 2 races to go in the championship GLPK jumped from 6th to 5th in the teams classification. Next race will take place in 2 weeks time in Adria, Italy.
