Since completeing an MFA in Fine Art, Jonathan Chalmers has been located on the south coast of England. 

Through a layering of cultural and religious imagery my current work continues to examine the fluid relationship between an individual’s identity and the physical and psychological landscapes they inhabit. An earlier body of work investigated the notion that an individual is only ever a combination of everybody they have ever known. Work completed for my Masters degree investigated boundaries of the body, the skin and the ego. Current work considers how the ‘landscapes’ we inhabit influence our past, present and future memories.

The work focuses on the physical and psychological boundaries that communities collage together. Motivation is draw from ‘play’ and examines the fragile relationship that young and old have towards there surroundings.

It is fitting that children’s games, characters, toys and puzzles form the foundation of this new work.
