Welcome to the JoMiTE Intercultural course!

This Intercultural Course (4 ECTS) aims to promote intercultural communication in future European teachers through a deeper understanding of issues of intercultural communication, linguistic and cultural diversity, identity and teacher competences.  The module spans the three stages of the teaching placement abroad (TPA): preparation before the exchange (phase 1), development and reflection during placement  (phase 2a in country one and phase 2b in country two), and debriefing following the placement (phase 3).

The aims of the module:

·          develop an awareness of self and culture and to understand one’s own culture as a social construct in order to move away from ethnocentric perspectives;

·          examine the discourse of different educational systems on critical social and cultural issues;

·          acquire methodological tools for understanding and analysing intercultural issues in the classroom;
