My Bio

BS in Physical Education and Recreation Administration Minor in Sports Medicine

Mars Hill College - 1994

MS in Recreation Administration

Indiana University - 1997

I grew up in Chesapeake, Virginia and was involved in lots of activities.  My parents made sure that my sisters and I had a good background in sports, music, girl scouts and even dance!  At Indian River High School I was involved in volleyball, basketball and fast-pitch softball.  I also played the trumpet in the band and especially enjoyed the jazz band where we played real shows for the public.

I knew the beach location was not where I wanted to live, so I was off to the mountains of western NC when I graduated in 1989.  At MHC, I got partial softball, soccer and academic scholarships.  I was a catcher for the softball team a forward for the soccer team and a good student.  I made lots of lifelong friends there including my husband Billy Knight who is from Stecoah and is a teacher in the High School.  We moved back to Graham County in 1996 and I became employed by Graham County School in 1997.

These days I am teaching elementary health and P.E., raising our two daughters, coaching cross-country & soccer teams and playing as much as I can.  I enjoy running, biking & kayaking.  My girls constantly ask me why do I have to go bike riding or running and my answer is always, "because I enjoy it and I want to able to do this with you girls when you get older!"
