Second Year of Japan Outreach Program! The Department of East
Asian Languages and Cultures (EALC) at Wake
Forest University
is pleased to announce its second year of Japan Outreach Program. This program has
been supported by the Japan Foundation, an affiliate association of the Japanese
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Laurasian Institution since August 2009. As
of August 2010, we reached out about 10,000 individuals and visited 36 schools
in the Winston-Salem
area. I hope to expand the area such as Stokes, Guilford,
Davidson, Davie, Yadkin, and Surry County
this year. | What’s JOI? Japan Outreach Initiative (JOI), sponsored by the Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership (CGP) and designed by the Laurasian Institution (TLI), provides native Japanese coordinators to work in communities in the U.S. Midwest and Southeast. Its purpose is to increase knowledge and awareness of Japan and its culture, significance and contributions to both the United States and the world. Wake Forest University is currently one of the nine sites in the country with this initiative.
