John's Ancestors

Unlike his wife's ancestors, who were all Protestant and from Morschheim, John Zink's ancestors were a more heterogeneous group.

Most of his ancestors were Protestant, but his maternal grandfather (Johann Henrich Leppert) was born into a Catholic family and was baptized in the Catholic church in Kirchheimbolanden, Germany.  This grandfather married a Protestant woman in the Morschheim Evangelical church, and all of their children, including John's mother, were baptized there.  So the grandfather must have converted or at least agreed to have the children raised Protestant, though there is no mention of this in the church records.

Also, some of John's ancestors were from places other than Morschheim.  One example is the Leppert family, who lived in Oberwiesen and attended the nearest Catholic church in Kirchheimbolanden.  Another example is the Zinck family, who lived in Bischheim as well as Morschheim. The reason for this is that John's paternal grandfather, though born in Morschheim, married a woman from Bischheim and lived there after the marriage. That branch of the family remained in Bischheim except for John's father, who married a woman from Morschheim and moved back there. So John was born in Morschheim, just like his grandfather Zinck and great-grandfather Zinck, but his father was born in Bischheim.

Two documents are attached -- a pedigree chart showing John's direct ancestors, and an ancestry report listing his direct ancestors and their siblings and children.

Unless otherwise indicated in the endnotes, the information in the chart and report is taken from the registers of three churches – the Evangelical church in Morschheim, the Evangelical church in Bischheim, and the Catholic church in Kirchheimbolanden.  The registers of all three churches have been microfilmed by the LDS (Mormon) Church and are available at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.  The records for the time period covered by the chart and report can be found on microfilm numbers 193059 (Morschheim), 1457539 (Bischheim), and 247623 (Kirchheimbolanden).
