Pamporovo, 3rd to 7th of February 2010.

For an extended weekend Snowboarding Pamporovo is an excellent destination.

Flight times from Gatwick to Sofia  worked well and were a good price. We arranged our transfer from Sofia through Moto-Roads. Both transfer journeys were around 3hours. Moto-Roads provided comfortable vehicles, suitable for carrying board bags. The cost was reasonable between two, good if shared between four.

The accommodation at the Castle was excellent. The flat has everything you need. All the essentials are covered, good shower, good bed, fridge and cooker. There is a DVD player and Stereo so take some tunes and DVD’s. Other facilities within the complex looked good, Shop, Bar, Gym.

The Snowboarding was great. Conditions were excellent on and off piste. Lift ticket was a bargain at £70 for 3 days. There was plenty of powder to enjoy off piste. There are good tree runs, however, the trees are not completely cleared so you have to go carefully at times. The lift system is good, especially the new 6 man. Lift queues were short. It is clear the mountain is ideal for beginners, good runs to learn on and very reasonably priced ski/board school.

The food and drink was good. Beers are around £2, although it always seemed to be happy hour 2 4 1. Bars & Restaurants in town offer something for all. The Bulgarian food was good. Menu’s are like small books and all offer their own amusing translations. Main meals can be anything between £6 to £18. The food lodges at the top of the mountain also offer good lunches at good prices.

We had a great weekend. Great powder in the day. Great evenings on the 2 4 1 beers and Running Chicken Pizza. The best kind of chicken??

Cheers JR.

Had a chat with the lads yesterday and today and below is our full and honest feedback.

  • Transfer both ways were very good, Moto-Roads were really efficient.
  • Journey took us 3 hours each way. I think the journey times are more like just over an hour and a half Sofia to Plovdiv and the same Plovdiv to Pamporova (although this bit could be more in bad weather and/or at night).
  • The two Girls on reception at Castle were very good, Dima spoke really good English
  • Hired ski equipment from the Castle too, price was good and service was OK  needed to phone probably once a day to bring him down to open up.
  • Apartment was great, the purchase of proper size mugs for tea and coffee was a good thing!.
  • Basically it was normal English prices, £2.50 a pint and about £5-15 for food.
  • For those who like a drink you should stick to local stuff as this was far cheaper.
  • It’s a totally cash society, credit cards aren’t much use. We tried to pay our ski passes on mine and all they ended up doing was taking cash out on it with a 4% charge then we paid with that cash.
  • Not sure if this is always the case but some of the green runs were well used while we were there, but all other runs were very good.

Anyway we had a cracking time and a huge thanks again for letting us use the place.

Cheers again buddy,

Rich.
