Curriculum Update: In Language Arts, the class will continue Reading our Storytown basal series.  We are working on a story called  Inventing the Future by Marie Delano. This biographical piece focuses on character traits and motives.  Fifth grade students will continue to work on improving their reading comprehension and responses to state the author's message, character traits, plot, sub-plots, and problem resolutions throughout the year. We will also be continuing the computer based reading program called Achieve 3000 to work on comprehending nonfictional text. We have been using the new Mac mobile lab top computer lab in class, but students also need to complete at least one article per week on their computer at home.  Our Writing this quarter is a biography on a famous person of the students' choosing.  We will be focusing on multi-paragraph organization, peer editing, and self editing.   In Math we are finishing up percent and ratio and will be moving into geometry before the Hawaii State Assessment tests in April.  For Social Studies and Heath, students have been attending classes with Mrs. C. Fujimoto and Mrs. D. Fujimoto where they are studying the early American colonies and the human body.   Science class is focusing on Space and our Solar System.  For Art we are working on geometric designs as well as buddy portraits that were started at camp.  Below, you will find some pictures of our fun days at Camp Erdman last month.  Please refer to the bottom of this page for important dates and reminders.
