The Law

LAW. 1

The law of the land is used to establish an orderly conduct of life and association among the citizens of the country. The law is good inasmuch as it seeks to accomplish a life of peace among the people. Without law anarchy would reign. There is a law of the spirit of life to be found in the Lord Jesus which supersedes all law, in everything that is good. It will develop a code of righteous living for the present which becomes the key to eternal life.

Today, each and every individual is living either under the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus or they are ruled by the law of sin and death. Rom. 8:2 We will deal with the negative first for it is that which rules all until they come to a knowledge of the Lord Jesus as Lord and Savior. Very simply, the statement of the scripture is, that the soul which sins, will die. Those who are righteous and work works of righteousness will receive a just reward. Contrariwise, those who sin will receive the compensation of the unrighteous. Eze. 18:20

Because of the sin of Adam, sin became a part of life on earth. Consequently, with his downfall the sentence of death was passed upon all of mankind, for in Adam all die. 1 Cor. 15:22 Death is an appointment which all are destined to keep. David proclaimed that he was born in sin and conceive in iniquity. Ps. 51:5 There is no escaping the fact that the whole of humanity are concluded, by the Lord, to be in one category, that is a sinner. The beauty of the Gospel is that there is a way whereby we may break away from the force and domination of sin in our lives. That is, when we believe on the Lord Jesus, He liberates us. Gal. 3:22

It is recorded twice in His ministry that Jesus, after having forgiven sin warned the persons to go and sin no more. Was He making an impossible request of them or could they actually fulfill His command? Having forgiven the woman taken in adultery, He assured her that he did not condemn her but to sin no more. John 8:11 Also, in the case of the man whom He commanded to take up his bed and walk. Later when they met again in the temple, Jesus not only warned him to sin no more but also told him of the consequences if he returned to sin. In doing so, he would open up the possibility of yet a worse sickness afflicting him. John 5:14 Would the Lord Jesus required of them that they follow a pattern of life which was impossible, or could they actually live without sinning.

LAW. 2

Every champion, every successful individual will establish a goal for themselves. It becomes the motivating factor in their lives. Every action is a step toward the completion of that objective. Once that purpose is achieved they then establish new heights and press on. So with the Apostle Paul. His aim in life, after he met Christ, was to reach the apex, gain the prize, of the high calling in Christ Jesus. Phil. 3:14 That vision was constantly before him and had a profound effect on his thinking and actions. He communicated his convictions to those to whom he ministered, feeling that he had so gained Christ that he could urge them to follow his example as he followed Christ. "Let us live up to what we have already attained." Phil. 3:16 NIV. His writings indicate the spiritual strength which had been imparted to him of the Lord. In spite of all the trials he faced, he lived a victorious life in Christ. Rom. 8:37

The reason for the preceding was to lay a foundation showing that the Apostle was not a wimp, a weak, vacillating Christian leader. He was exceedingly successful in both his Christian life and in his ministry. Therefore, when he wrote concerning the struggles of the flesh with sin he was not indicating that he was over powered by sin. The key to his victory is found in his words, "ye become dead to the law by the body of Christ."

Rom. 7:4 He was no doubt speaking of the Law of Moses, but the law of sin and death prevails over all who are not in Christ. He equates the Law as having aroused and exposed the sinful nature of man, taking him deeper into the law of sin and death. Rom. 7:5

A forest fire is frequently fought with fire. The law of sin and death is defeated by death. Not physical death but death to the carnal being. "But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit." Rom. 7:6 NIKV The secret of a victorious life in Christ Jesus is found in the statement, "I am crucified with Christ." Gal. 2:20 A dead person will not respond to anything pertaining to this life. When we are crucified with Christ, and this should be normal Christianity, the carnal man is destroyed and the spiritual become dominate. "I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me." It is extremely evident that here is a depth of spirituality available to the children of the Lord which is not being practiced today. When the carnal, the old man is brought into submission the perfect will of the Lord will be made manifest in that life.

LAW. 3

All true sciences in life have a certain order, which is often called a Law, or the manner in which certain elements will operate. The very fact that there is an order to the whole of life and the universe, gives evidence that there is a Divine intelligence behind their arrangement and consistent action. The power behind the order of all is the One who is the Spirit of Life. Life giving and life sustaining. The power maintaining everything in existence is the One who created it in the first place. All the laws of the universe, of life, of eternity, all the consistency that is in existence is because of Him.

Col. 1:17 He preserves and continues to uphold all things by the Word of His power. Heb. 1:3 Exercising the law of the Spirit of life the Christian has been given the weapons whereby they may overcome the law of sin and death.

The approach of the Apostle Paul to be victorious in his Christian walk would seem extremely severe to the majority of Christianity today. His method of serving Christ and triumphing over his carnal nature was to discipline himself. Denying the desires and longings of the flesh. He refused to submit to those things which would separate him from his life in Christ.

He exercised the help of the Spirit to bring sinful desire into subjection. 1 Cor. 9:27

The consequences of failing to perform this act of self-denial is critical.

He issued a dire warning that there was the possibility of becoming a castaway even though he had preach the gospel and was used mightily of the Lord. Castaway, seems to be so final. An action for which there remains no possibility of being restored. 1 Cor. 9:27 Peter gave us a list of the most unclean and destructive works of the flesh and spirit. Then he summed them up by saying that there are those who would lead one astray through the lusts of the flesh, and lewdness, which is exactly what Paul brought into subjection. These while making great promises of liberty are the servants of corruption. They are overwhelmed by their iniquity and forced into slavery to unrighteousness. 2 Peter 2:18-19 Consider carefully that having once been delivered, to return to the mess out of which we were taken, will result in a far greater and much more serious consequence than when we first came to Christ. It would have been far better never to have come to a knowledge of salvation than to have experienced Christ and then go back to the beggarly elements of sin. 2 Peter 2:20-21. It is the fulfillment of the words of the Lord Jesus. Their latter end is worse than at the first. Mt. 12:45

THE LAW.  4

The law of the Lord of the Lord is perfect resulting in the work of the Spirit, the conversion of the soul. The testimony, the witness of the Lord is true bringing understanding to the simple. Ps. 19:7 Thus we see the might and power of the Word of the Lord to bring about a change in the life of mankind. The law of the Word is that it produces a change, a new person when it is welcomed into our hearts. It is words of wisdom  and imparts wisdom to those who embrace it. The entrance of His Word is like the dawning of a new day, a new life is produced. A divine, spiritual omprehension is granted. The heart and mind are illuminated with an understanding of things which are of the Lord and are eternal and everlasting. Ps. 119:130

The Word  brings light. Heavenly light. The light of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ who is the light of the world. John 8:12 The law of the universe declares that the only true constant in the entire cosmos, is light. It is unchanging, always remaining the same. Never deviating from its nature and character. How fitting, that He who created all things would be declared to be light. The Lord is light. 1 John 1:5 Inasmuch as He is life and very existence itself, He has always been the God of ,and the source of all light. Eternally, He has been light. There is no darkness in Him, nor has there even been, neither will there ever be. His person, His being, His presence is light.
He is the everlasting light, He is the glory which dwelt between the cherubim and above the mercy seat in the tabernacle and the temple.

Because He was the architect of all that has been created the very first thing which He created was light. Gen. 1:3 However it was not until the fourth day that He developed the light bearing bodies which now rule over the night and the day. Gen. 1:14-19 The light by which we now live is a created light. He is not, He is eternal light and has always been light. Most definitely what He is, is far superior to that which He has created. While He is likened to a sun, a source of light. His light is certainly far greater, more brilliant than any that has ever been seen by mankind. Ps. 94:11

He is called the Father of lights. In other words all that emits light has but one source and that is the Lord. We note that the Apostle used the plural, lights, when speaking of the Father of light. James 1:17 How interesting, the only constant, unchangeable substance in the whole of the universe is light and the Word of the Lord declares that He is light. Unchanging, unmovable, always the same. Mal. 3:6

THE LAW. 5

The penetration of the Word of the Lord into our hearts creates true understanding and is the beginning of true enlightenment. It is a time of the revelation and comprehension of the Word and of the life giving power which brought all things into existence. The law or the Word gives light, because it is the light of the Lord. To know the Word is to know the Lord. Ps. 119:130 His law, His code of righteous living is of greater value than all the wealth that man may accumulate. It is more to be sought after than the silver and gold of this world which will perish. His Word is eternal. Ps. 119:72

The Law of the Lord is no longer commandments written in stone but now they are recorded in the hearts of those who come to the Lord Jesus. He is the author of the covenant and the one who fulfills it in the heart of mankind. The people who have His Word in their hearts are the people of the Lord. It is not decided by race but by the grace of the Lord. Jer. 31:33 His Word retained in the heart will deliver and keep from sin and iniquity. Ps. 119:11 The law of the Lord, the Word is of crucial importance to those who would truly walk in the perfect will of the Lord. Its voice and authority will preserve from sin. The person who would be blessed of the Lord must have a deep seated hunger for the Word and a strong desire to follow its tenets. So much so that they find themselves meditating both day and night on the Word. It is the Word of life. The only book whose contents produce life everlasting in those who accept and embrace its teachings. 1 John 1:1 The living Word is that which sustains and keeps its adherents from loosing out with the Lord. Ps. 37:31

The hearing of the law had a profound effect when it is heard with an open heart. The children of Israel retuning from Babylon to Jerusalem, upon hearing the Word made an extremely hard but very important decision. In following what they heard, they separated themselves from the mixed multitude. Neh. 13:3 While in captivity for seventy years they had married contrarily to what the law allowed, thus some had embraced false gods. The same took place while Israel was in Egypt so that when they left, there were those among them who were of different persuasions. These were the same kind who were the trouble makers in the wilderness. Num. 11:4 A mixture of flesh and spirit will not produce a good spiritual life. It may be found in the heart of the individual or in a church body. Wherever and however it is manifest it will produce nothing but compromise and division. Rom. 16:17

THE LAW. 6

The perfect law of liberty. These words of the Apostle James immediately suggest an order and manner of life with liberty and freedom. In the law of liberty there is release and deliverance from those things which bind and hinder spiritual life. Too often, the law of liberty is interpreted as being a law of license, to commit or do anything and everything without having to pay the consequences. The law of liberty is perfect, therefore it has to be of the Lord. James 1:25 It is a law which produces the blessing of the Lord in those who keep it. It requires an hearing ear and a willingness to follow the hearing of the Word with works of righteousness.

The liberty which is found in Christ Jesus liberates from the bondages of the flesh, the old sinful, nature. We are exhorted to stand determinedly in this glorious liberty which has been accomplished in His people causing them to be freed from the corruption of this world. Rom. 8:21 The warning, is not to become entangled again with the slavery which is the condition of the carnal man. In returning to the old pattern of life we become entangled, trapped with the bondages that we had been liberated from in the first place. Peter spoke of this condition by using very dramatic and explicit examples. There is not doubt as to the doctrine of the early church along these lines.

2 Peter 2:22 Therefore those who are in Christ Jesus are encouraged not to use their freedom, and redemption as an excuse to indulge in the activities of the sinful nature of man. Gal. 5:13

Laws are created for the lawless. Where there is law, there will be those who enforce the law. The lawless will be brought before the judge who will decide their innocence of guilt and free them or impose a sentence upon them. The judicial order found in the world system follows the same pattern when it involves the spiritual world. All have sinned. All are living under the sentence of death because of sin. All will be judged by the law of liberty. James 2:12 But those who believe on the Lord Jesus have the perfect advocate, He never looses a case. 1 John 2:1 Working together with Him is the Holy Spirit who creates a new creature out of those who seek the advocacy of the Lord Jesus. He too is Lord, and His presence is a guarantee of absolute liberty from the past nature. His presence brings freedom and independence from the guilt and condemnation of sin. 2 Cor. 3:17 The Spirit of the Lord is He who calls and anoints for ministry. He is the One who works through the people of the Lord to bring the goodness and mercy of the Lord to hurting humanity. Luke 4:18

THE LAW. 7

The law of the liberty which is found in the Lord Jesus warrants our through attention and consideration. Its benefits are manifold and endless. James 1:25 The returns and great value of a life lived according to its tenets will be greatly rewarded, not only in this life but eternally, in the life to come. The enemy of our soul would attempt to cause us to think that the law of the Lord is too stringent. In all actuality, it is the easy way. The only way which is really beneficial is the way of the Lord. Remember, Jesus said; my yoke is easy and my burden light. Being yoked together with Him can be delightful for He carries the bulk of the Lord. Mt. 11:29-30

To merely view, to know its wording, to understand its meaning is insufficient There must be a willingness to follow its teachings that the rewards might be received. However spectacular the beginning of a race may be, it is the end of the race which counts. The prize, in this case a crown of glory is rewarded those who continued unto the conclusion of the race. 1 Cor. 9:24 A continuation, a persistence in working the works of the Lord Jesus and allowing His life to be lived, by the Spirit and the Word, in us we will gain glory, honor and life immortal. Rom. 2:7

Just a word of warning to those who might consider the way of the Lord too difficult, too straight and too narrow. The kind, loving Jesus from time to time uttered dire warnings of the consequences of certain actions. In this case, He stated that the person who commenced the plowing and then, like Lots wife, looked back was not fit for the kingdom of God. Luke 9:62 Spiritual inconsistency has a negative effect by excluding the individual from life eternal and the everlasting blessings of the Lord. Paul was even more outspoken and blunt when writing concerning those who fall from grace. If there is a continual maintenance and living according to that perfect law of liberty that person will reap accordingly. However, if there is not that steadfastness, Paul said that person will be cut off, separated, alienated, excluded and barred from the kingdom of the Lord. Some embrace doctrines which deny such severity on the part of the Lord. Let’s give a look see to the words of the Lord Jesus. The good tree which bears fruit is pruned. The fruitless tree will be cut down even to the roots. Its dead wood is then destroyed in the fire. These are serious words which need to be given our utmost attention and consideration. Mt. 3:10 The writer of the book of Hebrews added to this thought by declaring that land which produce briars and thorns would be rejected. Also that it would be close to being cursed of the Lord. The ultimate of the growth on this land would be that of burning. Heb. 6:8

THE LAW. 8

The law of "all things." Whenever the Lord chooses to apply His law of all things, we may rest assured that His intent is to convey the thought of completeness, fullness, all embracing, absolute, entirety and so on. The Lord never leaves His work or His promises half finished. Jesus summed up the law and the prophets in our actions toward one another. All things which we desire of others must first be demonstrated in our actions toward them. This gives us a good foundation to be the recipient of the Lord’s all things. It demonstrates a heart after the heart of the Lord. Mt. 7:12

Measure the magnitude of the statement made by Paul when he said that all things are freely, with love and joy on the part of the Lord, imparted to us of the Him. Such a declaration is all embracing. Regardless of the situation, this is included in the bountiful promises of the Lord. Without restraint, without reluctance His blessings are bestowed upon us. Rom. 8:32 While the promises are positive there is action which must be taken on our part in order to see His Word accomplished in us. All things are possible, or capable of coming to pass, to those who believe. Mark 9:23 Faith in the promise and especially the one who made the promise is essential. Our trust and confidence in Him produce great accomplishments. Remember, all things are possible.

Most who read this will anticipate and perhaps quote some of the all things found in the Bible. They are all extremely important for the well being of every Christian believer. They are sign posts directing, and easing our travels through this earthly life. Our conviction of their veracity will cause every good and positive all things to be beautifully fulfilled in our walk with the Lord. We are constantly placing our life’s in the hands of other human beings and trust that they are competent to perform that for which they have been trained. For instance, the pilot of the plane which was crash landed in the Hudson river. The pilot was well trained, well seasoned and very capable. Through his efforts and the prayers of those on board, they were all delivered from death. How much more proficient is the Lord. With the Lord, all things are possible, even the miraculous. His works take over where man’s cannot go. Impossible is not in the Lord’s vocabulary. The possibilities of mankind are limited. There is a wall, a restraint, a barrier beyond which it is impossible for man to go. This does not exist with the Lord. Mark 10:27 Catch the mind of the Lord as the Word of the Lord came to Jeremiah. Is there anything too hard for me? Jer. 32:27 The response to that question, of course, is absolutely nothing. There is nothing, nothing, nothing, that He cannot do. All things are possible!

THE LAW.  9

The ability to overcome that which seems unattainable is to be found in the Lord Jesus Christ. Human strength and capabilities have their limit but we remember that with the Lord, “nothing shall be impossible unto you.” Mt.17:20 We therefore look for a source of power beyond that of mankind. It is not possible to place a boundary on, or to contain the capability of the Lord. All things may be accomplished through Christ. Phil. 4:13 Special interest must be taken in the fact that Paul emphasized that it was through Christ, the anointed one, that he could do all things. In His name Christ, and the power which accompanies it, there are no limitations.

Paul had learned that at certain times when he felt the weakest, the Lord displayed His strength through Him. Never is the strength of the Lord exhibited in greater might than in the hour of our frailty. His strength is evidenced in its completeness and perfection. When we feel like we cannot act, then, He provides the aptitude to perform the task which lies before us. In our weakness He proves His power leaving us with the certain knowledge that He has proven Himself to be strong on our behalf. 2 Cor. 12:9 His promises will be fulfilled time and time again in our walk with Him. He is a sure source of refreshing to those who are weary and faint. His power is available to all who will call upon His name. To those who are weary and fatigued He demonstrates His authority and supremacy by increasing the strength of the fatigued and weak. Isa. 40:29 He is our strength in every situation in life. Learn to lean on Him and rely on the power of His might. Eph. 6:10

The Lord Jesus is the fountainhead, the beginning of all things to those who believe on Him. We are of Him. Rom. 11:36 Having been born of the incorruptible seed, The Word of the Lord. 1 Pet. 1:23 He is that living, eternal Word which became flesh, in order that flesh (the natural man) might be born a second time (of the Spirit) and acquire life everlasting. John 1:1 In the creation of things natural, He is the author. In the new creation, He is the only source whereby things eternal are obtained. He is the creator of all things. That embraces all and everything, earthly, heavenly, perceptible and imperceptible, all nations and all ruling authorities. All were created by Him and for Him.  Col. 1:16 As the Word, He is that creative Word. When we speak forth the Word of the Lord under the anointing of the Spirit and it is  mingled with faith, that Word is creative and will receive a positive response of the Lord. Example, He sent His Word and healed them. Ps. 107:20 His Word will not return to Him empty but it is mighty and will accomplish the purpose for which it was sent. Isa. 55:11

THE LAW.  10

It is a Divine essential that we receive all of the promises given us in the Word of the Lord. In the person of the Holy Spirit we are granted a glorious and wonderful spiritual advantage. In the first place, He, the Holy Spirit is entitled the Comforter. He is our advocate, our counselor, the one who personally makes known the God of all comfort to be exceedingly real to us. His visit was not to be merely on one occasion or one time. Jesus promised that He would abide forever. John 14:16 Not only is He with the people of the Lord but even better He dwells within those who will receive Him. The church cannot do without Him, for He is the Spirit of truth. We know and receive the truth, the revelation of the Word through Him. John 14:17 If He is not present the Word is not made to be a living Word. How great is our need for Him. It is as important as it is for a school room to have a teacher. He is the one who will teach us all things pertaining to the Lord Jesus and His Word. He will exalt and glorify Jesus. He makes Jesus to be wonderfully real in our heart and life. He is the one who will bring all things which we have been taught concerning the Lord Jesus, to our minds. John 14:26

The Father God, in acknowledging His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ graciously conveyed all things into His hands. John 16:15 That embraces completely all authority and all rights, not just for this universe and time but for that which is to come.  The love of the Father for His Son is of such tremendous magnitude that He has exalted Him above all eternal and earthly beings. Having bestowed upon Him that name which is the greatest name which ever has been given to any one, or ever will be. When we speak and pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we are pronouncing the most magnanimous name of the which, there can be, nor will there ever be any other like it. Phil. 2:9 The Father has declared that He will make His Son to be higher than the kings of the earth. Ps. 89:27 Therefore He has given Him the title and position of the King of kings and will show Him to be the only Potentate, the absolute highest of all authorities. 1 Tim. 6:15

To be found among those all things which the Father delivered, gladly and graciously in to the hands of His beloved Son is the ability to possess and exercise all power. That power is all inclusive. There is no limit placed on its manifestation. Like all the works of the Lord it is for earth and heaven, for time and eternity. An authority, a capability which knows no limitation. Mt. 28:18. The action of the Father surrendering all things into the hand of His Son is a display of the incredible love He has for Him. John 3:35

THE LAW. 11

The desires and intentions of the Lord reach far beyond our expectations. We are too satisfied with the comfort of salvation. The knowledge of the Lord Jesus as savior and redeemer is extremely reassuring, Paul related these beginners to being babes in Christ, in whom, there was yet an evidence of carnality. The expressions of carnality as they become evident may then be used as a measurement of our spirituality. He found that he could not communicate with them on a high spiritual plain, but as beginners,
Babes in Christ. Thank the Lord they were still in Christ but needed their spiritual growth to be exercised. 1 Cor. 3:1

They are those who are more apt to desire spiritual entertainment, always desiring the fluffy, the frivolous element found in the church world today.
Their knowledge of the Word is basic, called milk by Peter. Without solid food or ever partaking of the depths of the Word and the Spirit. 1 Pet. 2:2 He who penned the book of Hebrews was one of authority and deep spiritual understanding. While the author is debated, the words and boldness are akin to the Apostle Paul. The depth of revelation from the Lord continues in Hebrews even as in the other Epistles which he wrote. He did not speak from a stand point of criticism but as correction which was coming from a heart of concern. He drew attention to their lack of a comprehension of the Word. They lacked an understanding of the first principles, the beginning, foundational teachings of the Word. Heb. 5:12

Even though they had reached the status of a teacher of the things of Christ, they had regressed to a state where they were no longer feeding on the meat of the Word but had gone back to milk. They had become unskillful in their knowledge of the Word of righteousness and its practice, having turned back to milk. Heb. 5:13 Titles are meaningless without the pure knowledge of the Word and that not in man’s wisdom but in the understanding conveyed by the Spirit. Without the anointing and wisdom of the Spirit what is taught is powerless. Meat, strong meat, food that has all the qualifications and elements needed to produce a strong and healthy body, is to be found in the Word of the Lord. It has a definite influence on the knowledge and spiritual growth of those who partake of it. It is the privilege of the mature, those who arrive at a full age in Christ to know the hidden and secret things of the heart of the Lord. Heb. 5:14 We are exhorted to grow up in the Lord Jesus Christ in all things For He is the head over all and will not have a half grown body but diametrically the opposite. A body well formed, healthy and strong in the might and power of the Lord Jesus. Eph. 4:15

LAW.  12

The importance of the Headship of Christ cannot be over emphasized. All spiritual growth of the body is dependent on a consistent attachment to the Head. The whole of the body receives it spiritual nourishment from the Head, which is Christ. The continuous ability of the body to function as a unit is as it receives commands from the Head. Of this we may be certain that the true body of Christ will be in absolute harmony performing perfectly its duties and responsibilities. Only by responding to the directives issued by the Head will the body be able to complete the Divine requirements of the Lord for His bride.  Col. 2:19

The destiny of the church is to be one with Christ. Not in theory but in actual fact. The most excellent pleasure of the Father is that in His Son the fullness, the total being of all that is God should dwell. Col. 1:19 The only physical body that the Lord has is the body of the Lord Jesus. He alone has been born of a woman, therefore was flesh and blood, one with us in our humanity. God is Spirit, (John 4:24) therefore God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself. 2 Cor. 5:19 The fact that He is Spirit does not deter one iota from His being. Rather it increases the majesty of His person showing that He is eternal and everlasting. In Christ Jesus, that is in His body, the comprehensiveness of all that is God dwells. Col. 2:9 In no manner does that in any way detract or replace the Father or the Holy Spirit. Jesus is neither the Father nor the Holy Spirit. The Father in eternal joy and heavenly pride has chosen to exalt His Son. The Father is greatly pleased with this arrangement for He is its author.

Now consider the great heights to which He is determined to elevate the Bride of Christ.  “ You have been given fullness in Christ, who is the Head over every power and authority.” Col. 2:10 NIV. He will glorify His church with His own presence. It is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Col. 1:27 If we are indeed children of the Most High, which we are, then we are to be heirs and co-heirs with the Lord Jesus of the entirety of His inheritance. Rom. 8:17 As He is the acknowledged Head, the church His body, she too is to be filled to absolute capacity with all the fullness of the Lord. Eph. 1:22-23 The honor and blessing of being a vessel filled with the glory of the Lord is a most wonderful prospective. What He originally purchased with His blood may have been the most sinful and wicked of the earth but what He does in them and through them is absolutely amazing. It make known the power and glory which is His very essence.

THE LAW.  13

The need, the necessity of Christ being the head is very obvious. The whole of the body is motivated by the directions issued by the head of any body. The Apostle gives evidence that spiritual growth to the whole body is through its linkage to the head.  All the elements vital to spiritual growth are to be ministered to the body bringing the body into the same status as the head. Col. 2:19 The head and the body must be composed of the identical materials or there will not be the necessary coordination for a healthy relationship. The body must be able to understand perfectly the directives which proceed from the head and have the ability to function accordingly.  The usage of the name Christ, the anointing or anointed one, is very appropriate. All that we receive from the head is communicated to us through the anointing of the Spirit and the revelation of the Word. Spiritual growth requires a balance, an equal portion of the Word and the Spirit.

There is a process, a preparation which the body must procure prior to it being joined perfectly with the perfect one, the Lord Jesus. From the very beginning when we confess our sins, then are baptized in water we are being prepared for unity with Him. The sword of the Spirit, the Word of the Lord will work a work which the Apostle likens to circumcision. The carnal nature in all of us will resist this ordinance. It is an accomplishment of the Word and the Spirit for it is not a physical or a medical act but an act of God, performed through water baptism. The old man, the carnal man gives way to that which is called a new creature, or creation in Christ. Col. 2:11

Until the Christian dies to sin, he will be plagued by the works of the flesh.
The law of liberty is the law whereby the people of the Lord live. It is not license to live in sin, but rather to be delivered from the powers of sin. We are exhorted to speak and to live according to this freedom which has been purchased for us in the Lord Jesus. James 2:12 He also called it the perfect law of liberty whereby those who receive it may follow its ways and be blessed of the Lord. James 1:25 True liberty, absolute freedom comes through the Son of God, the Lord Jesus. John 8:36 There is a place of full and complete victory in the Lord Jesus Christ. The presence of the Spirit of the Lord is our assurance of freedom from the works of the flesh. 2 Cor. 3:17 All of the Lords works in creation were perfect. How much more so in the new creation. We are urged to stand stalwart in the full liberty which has been given to us in Christ. To remain untangled from the bondages of sin which are so prevalent in this world. There is then, full and continued deliverance for us as we serve Christ. Gal. 5:1

THE LAW.  14

We anticipate that because we are Christians that automatically the blessings of the Lord are to be bountifully bestowed upon us. His blessings and benefits are available to all who will meet the Divine requirements. If the promises of the Lord are not completed in our life’s then it might be well for us to take stock of our spirituality. Are we in line with His will. Hearing or reading the Word enables us to see into the “perfect law of liberty.” James 1:25 However that is not sufficient. To know, to comprehend what is said or read is certainly commendable. However it is the doer, the individual who lives according to that law who will receive the full attention and blessing of the Lord. Hearing is necessary, for faith comes by hearing but faith must have a result, an action, a demonstration of what one is believing for. There are situations where faith demands action but if we are negligent and fail to act we lose the benefit. The Lord is looking for doers as well as those with the ability to hear. As a matter of fact if the hearing of the Word does not inspire to action, did we really hear? Perhaps with the ear but not the heart. James 1:25

Obedience to the Word is a powerful key to the manifold blessings of the Lord. Retaining and practicing the will of the Lord Jesus is a sign of being a follower, a disciple. John 8:38 The power of love, the love of the Lord, is manifest in following the teachings of the Lord Jesus. A deep rooted, full hearted commitment to the commandments of the Father will cause that person to continue to be dwelling in His love. They will consistently know the manifestation of His love to them and abiding in them. John 15:9-10 Obedience is the sign of our spiritual standing before the Lord. There are two masters, righteousness or sin. The one to whom we yield ourselves becomes our master. There is no gray area, no median, it is either or. When we are obedient to the Lord then that action will lead us to participation in His righteousness. If the dedication is to sin, the end of that path is death. Rom. 6:16 Paul is very straight forward in his statement and leaves no question as to the end results of following one or the other of these masters will be.

The enactment of law of liberty in Christ Jesus in the individual’s life will result in deliverance from the former bondage of sin. Bondage and sin are synonymous, one will always be present with the other. Those who have been born of the Spirit are new creatures in Christ Jesus was birthed into the glorious liberty which may only be found in Him. Rom. 8:21 The difference is so extreme that there is really no comparison. Sin is darkness and death while righteousness is light, joy and peace in the Spirit of the Lord. Rom. 14:17

THE LAW.  15

A royal law, written by royalty for a royal people, and demonstrated by the very highest royalty of heaven and earth, of time and eternity, the Lord Jesus. The directions of the royal law are simple and easy to understand, so that anyone reading it may easily understand its instructions. It is not complex and is written in a manner which may be grasped by all. Nevertheless, it necessitates a heart after the heart of the Lord to fulfill it’s simple requirements. On the surface, the command to love others with the same love with which we love ourselves does not seem to be a great burden, until we begin to think of those of whom we do not care a great deal. Those who have displeased or harmed us in someway, then it becomes a difficult task. Being filled with the love of Christ will enable that love to overwhelm all feelings of enmity and enable us to bless and not curse those who are against us. Rom. 12:14 Love your neighbor as yourself. The heart, the soul of the royal love is presented to us that we might live as the Lord Jesus lived, loving humanity.

The Lord Jesus, is the only one of His kind, the unique ruler and King of and over all kings kingdoms and creation. There are none who have, or ever will be able to supersede Him in power and authority. 1 Tim. 6:15 This law was written for a people who would be formed into a kingdom, a nation of kings and priests unto the Lord. Rev. 1:6 It is a calling from on high for the whosoever. From the most insignificant to the best known among mankind to join in with this royal band of the redeemed. The saved are to reign with Him for a thousand years here on the earth in a kingdom of righteousness. The kingdom of which the New Jerusalem is the capital and the only city mentioned by the Lord as being here on earth during that period of time.
They have a dual service which they perform before the Lord, they are priests as well as leaders. Rev. 20:6

The key to this blessed kingdom is love. A love for the Lord which will result in His love being imparted to us. Then we will be able to fulfill the royal law of the eternal kingdom of God. The love of Jesus changes, it alters the attitude of the heart toward others. What greater example of that love is to be found than His prayer on the cross for those who were responsible for His crucifixion. Luke 23:34 The Spirit of Christ in us should always be ready to pray that same prayer of forgiveness for those who may be offensive or offend us. Who is my neighbor? Luke 10:29 Anyone with a need, whether they are well known to us or a complete stranger. Aside from the blessing of the Lord there is no greater joy in life than knowing that we have extended a hand of help and love to some one in trying circumstances.

THE LAW.  15

Two laws meet together in the hearts of all of mankind. We are either influenced by the law of sin and death, or by the law of the Spirit of life which is only found in Christ Jesus. One of these two govern the life of every person on the face of the earth. Rom. 8:2 There is no need for the use of ecclesiastical language to understand the drastic difference between the two. The law of sin will always conclude in death, not solely physical death, but more importantly to those who are in subjection to that law, death, eternal death and separation from the Lord. The scripture states very positively that the soul which sins will die. Eze. 18:20 Also that each one is responsible for their own sin. No one else may be blamed. There are no excuses. Contrary wise, the righteous receive the rewards, the blessings of the righteous. The binding force of this law may be broken and its chains loosed when the sinner turns from their unrighteousness to the Lord. There is a means  whereby we may be liberated from its power and authority over our life. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ is the law of the free person.

Freedom is found only in the Lord Jesus. When there is a commitment to Him, there is an entirely different law brought into effect in the life of the repentant. The life giving Spirit will rule and reign in the heart and life of that person. Rom. 8:2 When liberty in Christ becomes operational it produces a totally new life. This law of freedom will result in absolute deliverance from all sin. We are urged to stand fast in the liberty of Christ. To guard carefully that we remain under the guidance and leadership of the Spirit so that we do not become entangled again with the sins of the past. Gal. 5:1 How great and how far does the glorious liberty which we find in the Lord Jesus go. When Jesus liberates, that freedom is full and complete. Total liberation is the right and privilege of each and everyone who comes to Christ for forgiveness. John 8:36

The purchase price paid at Calvary by the Lord Jesus did not cover some or a part of our sins but all, fully and completely. He paid for the sin of  every person who was ever to live on this earth. His atonement covered all sin, therefore His forgiveness likewise includes all sin. 1 John 1:7 When we come under the influence of the law of the Spirit of life in Christ, it replaces and eliminates the old law under which we were born into this world. The presence of the Holy Spirit in our life assures us of the presence of the Lord Jesus. Such an association makes sin to be incompatible with the law of the Spirit. No one can afford to allow sin to reign in them or to have dominion over them in any way. Rom. 6:12 The forgiven are set free from all sin.

THE LAW. 16

Who is in charge? The Apostle wonderfully proclaimed that, "it shall not have dominion over you." Rom. 6:14 Where we were once citizens of the world and of the kingdom of unrighteousness, now, in Christ Jesus we have found release, liberty from the bondages of sin and unrighteousness. Sin no longer dictates the manner of life which we live. We have been set free from it’s domination. Those whom the Son sets free are indeed liberated from the forces of darkness. John 8:36 All of them. The redemption accomplished in the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus is a complete work. It is through and absolutely covers every sin made by mankind. It has liberated its recipients from every type and act of sin. Total forgiveness, is total redemption, bringing forth total liberty. His blood cleanses from ALL sin. 1 Jn. 1:7

Red blood washes pure white. Only by the blood of the Lord Jesus, the blood of God, can such a wonder be accomplished. Rev. 7:14 White in the Greek comes from a root word meaning, light (leukos), therefore not only are these garments pure white but they are glistening with the glorious light of the Lord. The righteous, eternally filled with His Spirit will blaze as the brightness of the firmament and the stars for ever and ever. Dan. 12:3 Incidentally, and this is important, for it is the destiny of what is determined to be "a great multitude." Rev. 7:9 These are these are the people called the "remnant of the woman’s seed" Rev. 12:17 They are the foolish virgins.

Mt. 25:1-12 A class of Christians who at the time of the taking out of the Bride. Rev. 12:6, 14 did not meet the Divine standard for being a part of the Bride. They are not lost but will face the extreme powers of the ungodly trio during the tribulation period. They will triumph over the number, name and mark of the antichrist, by resisting and not receiving or acknowledging any of the three, and are seen here in their victorious state. Rev. 15:2 They are a composition of two groups, the remnant, and the Israelites who receive the witness of the two witnesses who testify for three and one half years in Jerusalem, or during the whole time allotted to the tribulation. We know who they are because these redeemed ones sing the song of Moses, the Law and the song of the Lamb, the Lord Jesus. Rev. 15:3 Their presence before the throne signals the time of the second coming of Christ and the seven final judgments which are horrendous catastrophes poured of seven vials controlled by seven angels. Rev. 16:1 From eternity the Lord planned the redemption of mankind and nothing that mankind tries to do to hinder the plans of the Lord will work. His plan has been put into action and will play out just as He has outlined it in the Word. His Word is forever settled in heaven. Ps. 119:89

THE LAW.  17

Man became a living soul when the Lord breathed the breath (ruach, breath, air, wind) of life into his nostrils. The Lord created Adam, body and soul but he was not yet a living creature. Gen. 2:7 The breath of the Spirit brought a life giving power to the unfinished creation and motivated it to become a living soul. Thus the soul is seen as that which gives life to the flesh of man. However it is the breath or spirit which activates the blood, the soul. While the soul and spirit of man are used interchangeable at times in the scripture there is a definite difference spelled out in the word between the two. Mankind, like the Lord is a trinity. Body, soul and spirit. The spirit gives life to the soul. The soul, or the blood maintains the flesh or the body.

The soul, the life’s blood of the Lord Jesus was to be shed as the only acceptable offering, that mankind might find redemption from their sins. Isa. 53:10 The Lord gave the life of the flesh, the soul, the blood as an atonement for the souls of mankind. Only by blood could atonement be made. Lev. 17:11There is nothing else which can be offered before the Lord as an act of salvation. We are saved by the blood of Christ or we are not saved at all. It is He who poured out His life on Calvary. Isa. 53:12
Blood and water are the elements of natural birth. So that we might ever be reminded of the offering of Christ. The new birth is created by water and blood. When they pierced His side blood and water flowed from His body portraying the means where by all may be saved. John 19:34

A the high priest could only enter into the Holy Place by blood, so, the Son of Man, the Lord Jesus entered into heaven, not because He was God’s Son but because He was the true High Priest. He entered but once and thereby obtained eternal redemption for all who would believe on Him. Heb. 9:12 As a man, even He needed to be redeemed to inherit all that the Father had prepared for the redeemed. Because of His actions we now come boldly to the throne of grace knowing that we are accepted through the blood of Jesus. Heb. 10:19 John the Baptist saluted Jesus by identifying Him as the Lamb of God. John 1:29 That was language which the religionist of that day well understood for they constantly sacrificed animals unto the Lord. Jesus was to be the final lamb to be slain as a redemptive act. Heaven is now beautified by a Lamb, an evidence of the slain Lamb ever situated in the very midst of the throne of the Lord. Rev. 7:17 For all the glorious things to be found in the Kingdom of Heaven this slain Lamb will stand out from them all for all who are there have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb.

THE LAW.  18

In Christ shall all be made alive. 1 Cor. 15:22 As the Passover lamb brought protection, deliverance and freedom to Israel of old, so Christ  our Passover brings the same to those who will trust in Him. 1 Cor. 5:7 In the first Adam, all die. Those born of him are born with the sentence of death upon them. Those born of the Spirit of Christ are delivered unto life eternal. Freedom from sin, from eternal death,is to be found in the true Lamb of God, the Lord Jesus. Jesus came into the world with the explicit objective of tasting death for every man, participating in it, that He might consume and destroy the enemy of all flesh. By His resurrection He demonstrated full and dominant power over death. So much so, that Paul writing concerning the mortality of the human race, declared, that through Christ, death is swallowed up, overcome and consumed, by His life. 2 Cor. 5:4

As absolutely necessary as the blood is to the life of the body so is the blood of Christ to the spiritual body. Blood is life, it warms and cools. It feeds the whole of the body supplying oxygen and nutrients and then carries away the waste from the cells of the body. It circulates throughout the body and unites the whole of the physical man. It attacks the invasion of diseases effecting healing. Without the shedding of blood there is no remission. Heb. 9:22 Forgiveness and cleansing from sin is completely dependent on the blood of Christ. There is no other possible source of liberty and freedom from its bondages. The tabernacle and temple along with all their implements of worship as well as the priesthood which conducted the services had to have been consecrated by the blood of a sacrifice. All were types and symbols of the one true sacrifice which was to come, the Lord Jesus. They had a measure of effectiveness but were limited. The only cleansing and sanctification possible is in the blood of the Lord Jesus. Heb. 9:14

The impossible is made possible through the blood of the Lord Jesus. There is no way that works of righteousness could every justify a person before the Lord. The Lord has provided the perfect way. The blood of justification, a right and proper standing before the Lord. When the pattern seen in the Word of the Lord is followed we are brought into full fellowship with Him. He has promise that where there is repentance there is forgiveness and we are made to be just and with true acceptance into the presence of the Lord. Rom. 5:9 The blood of Christ is the only atonement.

                                   HAPPY RESURRECTION DAY. ( 4-12-09 )

THE LAW.  19

A true bond with the Lord is not at all possible, except through the blood of the Lord Jesus. Prior to redemption by the blood of Christ, all, even the very best are alienated from the Lord. It is only through the blood of Christ that we are capable of entering into any kind of a knowledge of Him. His most precious blood is the key to all spiritual life. We may be able to work works of righteousness, and that is commendable, but that will not result in salvation. The blood of Christ is the great equalizer for He receives all on an equal basis, the righteous and the very worst of sinners must all come one way. Only by His blood may we enter into His presence. Eph. 2:13

The blood of the Lord Jesus is the seal of the everlasting covenant. It is our assurance of eternal life. Without the shedding and consequent cleansing by His blood there could be no deliverance from sin. All would remain forever under the penalty of their works of unrighteousness. Heb. 9:22 His blood, which is our atonement is the only means of cleansing from sins past and the agency whereby we attain a consistent victory over sin. The resurrection of the Lord Jesus, accomplished by the God of all peace is the verification of the full accomplishment of the atonement. Heb. 13:20

None of the works of the Lord are wrought in a half hearted manner. He never leaves a project unfinished or half completed. The purpose of salvation is not only to deliver from sins past but to keep His very own in the hour of temptation. Temptations will come, they are inevitable. But we need not succumb to them. Consistent victory is an evidence of the working of the power of the Lord. His desire and His capability is to keep His very own from inconsistencies, stumbling and falling; that He might present them before His throne in all perfection and victory. Jude 24 In all of His acts of creation He saw that it was good. Gen. 1  Most assuredly, in the most precious of His creation, man, it is His desire to see that it is good. Especially so, in that which has been recreated and made to be a new creature in Christ Jesus. Heb. 13:21 Walking in the light of the Lord there can be no darkness. Light dispels darkness. Darkness cannot exist with light. When we are in Christ, His light shines brightly within our spirit being. It is here that His blood cleans us from all sin. With the combination of His blood and His light the root of sin is destroyed. When the root dies, the tree dies. This is the age where the axe must be laid to the root of the trees that every besetting sin be destroyed at its source. Mt. 3:10 We were born of the Spirit to be victorious. We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us and gave Himself for us. Rom. 8:37

THE LAW.  20

The goal of the Lord has been established and presented to His church. He is desirous of manifesting His power and glory in His church until she assumes the fullness of  His likeness. He is the God of glory and appeared to Abraham as such. Acts 7:2 The appearances of His glory in the scriptures reveal to us an extremely bright and shining light. The shepherds to whom the announcement of the birth of Jesus was given were bathed in the visible glory of the Lord which lightened the area where they were gathered. Luke 2:9 The visible glory of the Lord was also seen on mount Sinai from the midst of the cloud and appeared to them as a devouring fire. Ex. 24:17 The angel of the LORD, the LORD in angelic form, appeared to Moses in a flame of fire, in the midst of a bush which was not consumed by the fire. Obviously, a fire very much unlike that which we know as fire. Ex. 3:2 Even so, He is declared to be a consuming fire, an aspect of His being which will be displayed greatly at the time of His coming.
2 Thess. 1:8

The glory of the Lord is like a flame with two tongues. It has a two fold effect. It can be a situation where it is revealed as delivering death unto death or life unto life. It has appeared as an expression of His displeasure. The complaints and murmurings of the children of Israel resulted in a positive answer to their grumbles and the manifestation of the glory of the Lord as a warning to them. Ex. 16:8-10 Extremely serious consequences are seen among them when Korah and his two hundred and fifty cohorts rebelled against Moses and Aaron. These were men of no small religious standing in Israel. Yet, they dared to challenge spiritual leadership which had been appointed of the Lord. Num. 16:1-3 As a test to prove who the divinely appointed leaders were they were all to appear before the Lord with their censers, incense and fire. On the part of the rebels, their acts were such as would bring judgment upon them, for they were of a wrong or false spirit. Num. 16:6-7 Our attitudes make or break us. Spiritual manifestations are not toys, when handled in a frivolous manner they can have a very serious outcome.

Korah gathered all the congregation who were  against them at the door of the tabernacle, and the glory of the LORD appeared. Num. 16:19 The LORD urged Moses and those with him to separate themselves from among these rebels that they may be instantaneously consumed. Moses immediately fell on his face and prayed a prayer of mediation for the children of Israel. Num. 19:20-22 Here we see the difference between self appointed leadership and those chosen of the Lord. Korah led them into a place where judgment was imminent. Moses had a burden for their deliverance.

THE LAW.  21

Even though Moses had immediately interceded for the people
(Num. 16:22) he called for them to separate themselves from Korah, Dathan and Abiram for he knew that their judgment was eminent and that those who sided with them would also be judged. Num. 16:26 We are looking at an historic event which is full of the law of retribution. Moses was a man called and appointed by the Lord and in their foolishness these men sought to usurp his God given authority. Their rebellion effected not only themselves but their immediate families and all others who chose to stand with them. Num. 16:27 The determination of a person to fully follow the Lord may result in them having to separate themselves from former associates, even families are divided at times, in order to fully follow the Lord. Over the ages of time the call of the Spirit is still, come out from among them, separate yourself from the old style of life and be received of the Lord. 2 Cor. 6:17-18

Moses, exercising both, a word of knowledge and prophesying their immediate judgment declared their demise. It is very apparent that the Lord had become exceedingly angry at the murmuring, complaining and rebellion of the escapees from Egypt. There was also a segment of those who came up out of Egypt who are called the mixed multitude. These were trouble makers, they were not true Israelites but for whatever reason took advantage of the moment and went with them. This bunch are still around and are to be found in every assembly. They were the root of the dissatisfaction of the people. Num. 11:4 When they later were released from Babylon they had the same problem and dealt with it in a drastic manner by separating the mixed multitude. I guess we could say; they put them in their place. Neh. 13:3

The new thing. We often hear it said that the Lord will do a new thing. This is taken from Isa. 43:19 and is used by referring to it as the last day revival.
No problem. However, in the time of Moses the Lord did a new thing and it was radical. It was most definitely an act of separation and cleansing from an ungodly influence which had sprung up among the people. If the Lord is going to have a glorious church in the end of the age, and He will. Eph. 5:27 Then there is going to be the same sort of a separation accomplished in the cleansing and purification of the body of Christ. It is not necessary that the earth swallow these last day individuals who pollute the true church and lead it in the wrong direction. There is a list of the dealings of the Lord with those who are rebels, basically Jude’s whole letter amply describes them. Jude, the entire twenty-five verses.

THE LAW.  22

Paul taught Timothy some powerful signs of the end of the age. He pronounced them to be perilous, spiritually hazardous and draining of spiritual stamina and strength. The word picture which he paints is recorded In 2 Tim. 3:1-5 Each and every situation written here is an activity of the ungodly and is increasing by leaps and bounds. The life and attitudes of mankind are well documented. One has but to read the newspaper or watch the news to know that we have indeed arrived and that the bulk of humanity  conducting themselves according to the prophecy.

Having alerted us to the sordid nature which is to be displayed in the end of the age, he also appealed to the church to turn away from such practices and in some cases, even the individual who is involved such an uncouth manner of life. 2 Tim. 3:5 The church, while it is to be in the world, is not to be a partaker of the worlds attitudes and style of life. The demands of  living the Christian life may seem, at times, to have serious requirements of holiness but when practiced they bring forth the joy and blessing of the Lord. Paul encouraged righteous living of every fashion. He advocated that certain individuals be avoided, that there be no fellowship with them. A judgment which does seem severe until we consider the effect which these persons had on the body of Christ. They are men who resist the truth, causing division and bringing in teachings which are offensive and contrary to that which had been taught. They are self centered and self serving. Individuals who are well practiced in the psychology and usage of words which are used to appease and deceive those who associate with them. Rom. 16:17-18 These are to be marked, to be noted and avoided.

Our thought of the day is the sanctification and cleansing of the last day church. The presence of the Holy Spirit has a tremendous purifying effect on the church. We have an example of those who lied to the Holy Spirit and to the leadership of the church at Jerusalem. A couple named, Ananias and Sapphira were judged by a judgment of death because of their doings. Mind you, they could have given any portion of the price of the land sold, had they just properly declared it to be but a part and not the whole price. The amount of money was not the issue, the lie to the Holy Spirit was that which was their problem. Acts 5:1-10 Beneficial results were received by the action of the Spirit of the Lord. The church benefited because the need for righteousness in all things was seen. Also, those who were of the nature of the mixed multitude dare not join them. v.13 While at the same time those who were true seekers, multitudes of men and women, were added to the church. v.14 The Spirits cleansing has tremendously good results.

THE LAW.  23

It is imperative that we discover fully the plan and purpose of the Lord for His very own. The method of gaining entrance into the kingdom of the Lord is generally well known and practiced by the church. However, not all by any means, once gaining entrance live according to kingdom principles. The Word of the Lord is always our guide in matters of Christian living. The Lord will have a people who live peaceably with others. At the same time they will demonstrated the holiness of the Lord which is so important to put into practice if we are to see the Lord. Heb. 12:14

The promises of the Lord are conditional. Salvation is for all, but without repentance and confession to the Lord of our sin, it is not received. 1 John 1:9 To participate in all the blessings of the Lord we find Divine requirements. His promises to the people of the Lord are wonderful and majestic. They are the temple of the Lord and His promise is to dwell and walk in them, demonstrating that they are indeed His people and that He is their God. There is no greater blessing than to enter into such a beautiful promise where we have a most intimate knowledge of the Lord. 2 Cor. 6:16

What does the Lord require of those who are His. The Lord revealed His expectations to Micah and consequently to all who will hear. He is seeking a people who will live according to the Divine Word showing a life style which is pleasing to the Lord. Manifesting the mercy of the Lord while walking in all humility before the Lord. Micah 6:8 Turning to the writings of the Apostles we find that it is a call to the highest form of righteousness and purity before the Lord. Come out, dare to be different, leave the old life, be separate, totally exclude yourself from the former manner of living.
2 Cor. 6:17 Abstain from any action which even has the appearance of an evil action. 2 Thes. 5:22

The intentions of the Lord to have a people of holiness should not be misconstrued into a series of demands or commands. It is not a subject which was meant to be burdensome but rather a life designed to bring the highest blessings of the Lord upon His people. Freedom from those things of the world which are futile and frivolous. Those who are in Christ have the benefit of having been made free from sin, not some but the whole of the past sinful life. They are now servants of the Most High, bringing forth fruit unto righteousness. Thus making certain that they possess life eternal in the Lord Jesus Christ. Rom. 6:22 He said, Be ye holy for I am holy.
Lev. 20:7, 1 Peter 1:15-16

THE LAW.  24

A certain and positive knowledge of the will of the Lord brings liberty and freedom into the life of the believer. His will and requirements for the reception of His plan and blessings in our daily life is recorded in His Word. Therefore we search the scriptures that we might be molded and formed spiritually into His likeness. Those whom we love we seek to please in every possible way. The same is true of our approaching the Lord. We are thoroughly convinced of His existence and His presence in our hearts brings total assurance, that He is and gives rewards to those who will diligently seek him. Heb. 11:6 Total devotion to Him, which is compared to the full commitment of a soldier to his duties, is necessary in order to fully enter  into all that the Lord has prepared for those who love Him and seek to please Him. There are not overwhelmed with the things of this life and are totally dedicated to a life in the Spirit which is pleasing to the Lord who has chosen and called them. 2 Tim. 2:4

Everyone who has been saved has entered into a process of spiritual growth.
We are not brought into Christ because we were good or doing good works, for He has concluded all under sin, that He might have mercy upon us all. Gal. 3:22 Salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ is the gift of God to all who will believe in His atoning work and receive it as a means of pardon from their sin. The ultimate of His purpose in His church is to bring her to a place where the fullness of His glory might be resident in her. She has been called to manifest His holiness in every aspect of her being. Be ye holy; for I am holy. 1 Pet. 1:15-16 The seriousness of this subject may be measured by the Word of the Lord. What are His Divine requirements? The declaration of the Word is; Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. Heb. 12:14

Holiness is a subject which is challenged and will always be, by those who would live a life of compromise. Nevertheless, the promises of the Lord are made to, and accomplished in, those who pursue the ways of the Lord in order to attain to the high calling which is in the Lord Jesus.  Paul challenged the Corinthian church and consequently all who would be members of the body of Christ to perfect holiness, in the fear of the Lord for in doing so, we give honor to Him. 2 Cor. 7:1 His work of redemption in us does not produce a minor change but is the beginning of a major and complete change culminating in a people who bare the likeness and nature of the Lord Jesus. He became one with us that we might become one with Him. Heb. 2:17

THE LAW.  25

King David was wise in the ways of the Lord. He knew that the way into the presence of the Lord was to attribute unto Him the glory of which He was exceedingly worthy. It is worth our time and purpose of life to understand and follow the example established by those who preceded us. Exalt the name of the Lord. His name is important to Him and is a name to be continually worshipped. The appeal of David to those who would worship the Lord was to do so in the beauty of holiness. Ps. 29:2

Aaron, the high priest was commanded to put on garments of glory and beauty. Ex. 28:40 They were garments of service depicting the status of his office. They represented the beauty and holiness of the Lord. In New Testament ministry we are honored by the Lord with the right of living a life clothed by the Lord Jesus. Having followed the Lord Jesus in the waters of baptism we have put on Christ. Gal. 3:27  There can be no greater garment of holiness than to be clothed with the Christ of God. Along with that we are entitled to put on the new man. One which is modeled after the life of holiness lived by the Lord Jesus. A totally new creation, in Him. Eph. 4:24 Lest we fail to understand the magnitude of that process of spiritual growth, the Apostle stated that the ultimate of His working in us was to bear His image and likeness. Col. 3:10

Moses, rightly evaluating the beauty of holiness, sought that the beauty of the Lord might rest upon the people of the Lord. Ps. 90:17 It is His will and the longing of His heart that He be able to have the very closest of relationship with those who are purportedly His very own possession. He is not a God afar off but is ever present. Jer. 23:23 He has promised that He would never leave nor forsake us. Our faith, our trust in His promises create an assurance in us that He is always with us. His Word, which is in our mouths and our hearts is true and powerful. That Word, in its entirety, is the promise which He has given us of His continuing presence. Rom. 10:8

Walking in the beauty of holiness there is no condemnation or sense of guilt in our hearts. 1 John 3:21 This is that which gives us boldness to approach unto Him with absolute confidence knowing full well that we will be granted an audience with Him. A clean heart exudes confidence toward the Lord. Faith becomes operational where there is love. I John 4:18 Our love is perfected in Him when we exemplify the holiness of the Almighty. It is not beyond our capability to receive the fullness of His promises. Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

THE LAW.  26

The honor of becoming the glorious eternal dwelling place of the Lord is something to be greatly desired by His people. The Lord has prepared great and wonderful things for those who become His place of habitation. David had a question and answer session where he posed the question concerning those who have a deep rooted longing be found in the majestic presence of the Lord. Who are those who may dwell in your tabernacle and live permanently on your holy hill? Ps. 15:1 Everyone wants to go to heaven. How many are willing to satisfy the criteria necessary to accomplish such a beautiful goal. The individual who gains the kingdom of the Lord is a person of righteousness embracing the truth, the Word of the Lord and following its precepts.  Being religious or joining a religious order is not sufficient. The word of the Lord must be embraced and become a standard of living in the here and now. Ps. 15:2

The Lord Jesus in His great and abundant love and mercy has prepared a way and a means whereby we may have full and complete assurance of dwelling eternally in His everlasting, heavenly temple. He promised that He would send another Comforter, the Holy Spirit, who would abide with you forever. John 14:16 He did not come on the day of Pentecost for a brief visit. According to the double emphasis given by the Lord Jesus, He, the Spirit, would abide, remain, continue to dwell. Then for those who would teach that His coming was but to those in that day, Jesus said that He would be here forever.

The Holy Spirit is exactly what His name implies. He is the Spirit of holiness. Rom. 4:1 Where He is welcomed and received there will be made manifest a scriptural holiness. He takes the teachings and life of Christ and establishes them in our spirit until we are able to live His life, by the power of the His Spirit, who abides within. There are many attitudes to be found in the church of today toward the subject of holiness, some positive, many negative. However, as it always should be, we turn to the Word, what does it say. Holiness is a spiritual commodity, which if one does not possess it, they will not see the Lord. Heb. 12:14 Blunt and to the point, a statement which must be seriously considered by all who desire to dwell in His eternal presence. The call and leadings of the Spirit can only lead us in the paths of righteousness,  for it His responsibility to make the things of Christ plain and understandable  to us. Our obligation is to have the ability to hear the voice of the Spirit and to react in a positive way that the excellence of the life of Christ might be manifest in us.

THE LAW.  27

If we will hear it, the Word is constantly issuing a challenge to the people of the Lord to walk before Him in His righteousness and holiness. The call of the Lord is very simple and uncomplicated and is presented in terms which are easily understood. Be ye holy; for I am holy. 1 Pet. 1:16 At times there are seemingly adverse events which take place in our life and we question, why me Lord? It is well to remember that all things work together for good to those called of the Lord, even great adversities. Rom. 8:28 Unquestionably some of these circumstances which arise, if not all, are used by the Lord as a means of correction to point us to His ways. He would have His people to become full partakers of His holiness. Heb. 12:10 What a wonderful invitation and great privilege to be able to enter into that particular phase of His character.

As with all things given by the Lord, He has made the promise and will fulfill it, providing we do our part and move in faith. There is not to be found a cleansing from sin where there is not a desire to be set free from its power. The Word calls upon us to cleanse ourselves from all unrighteousness of the flesh and  spirit. The Lord never presents us with a  situation that is impossible. He has made every provision possible for the cleansing process to be enacted and brought to its perfection. 2 Cor. 7:1
There will be and are difficulties which arise but never beyond the capability of the Lord to guide us through them to complete and ultimate victory. We are more than conquerors. Rom. 8:37 In Christ Jesus we will overcome. 2 Cor. 2:14

The blood of Christ cleanses from all sin. 1 John 1:7  If the cleansing from sin is not  all inclusive, then forgiveness is according to the same measure. Thank the Lord, such is not the case. All the works of the Lord are absolute. He will not deny His Word. He must react to every situation according to that which He has already declared in the Word. Now, having been set free, the liberated will bear fruit of righteousness unto the Lord. Rom. 6:22 He whom the son sets free is free indeed. John 8:36 In the natural, we are not born adults but grow and progress to adulthood. In Christ, we are born again, becoming babes in Christ. Then the process of growth begins. We establish goals unto which we want to attain in this life. The same is true with the spiritual. The Lord has set before us spiritual attainments, the consummation of His purpose in us is to bring us to His very own character and likeness. It is a goal for which we must all reach out to obtain, for it is His will for all of our life’s. Phil. 3:12

THE LAW  28

The things to which we are brought into submission, by our desires, are those which become the dominant force and determine the life we lead in our sojourn on earth and our place in eternity. A word picture fitting all who are born into this world may be found in Paul’s writings to the Corinthians. 1 Cor. 6:9-10 It is not a pretty picture but there is a golden opportunity to change the old life for an entirely new one. The Spirit of the Lord does wondrous things in the life of those who will call upon the name of the Lord.

His very first action is that of washing. 1 Cor. 6:11 The redemptive blood of the Lamb of God, the Lord Jesus Christ is applied to the heart of the penitent, by the Spirit of the Lord, and they are cleansed from the sins of the past. Rev. 1:5 Through the operation of the Spirit we are made to be new creatures in Christ Jesus. A spiritual birth creates a new life, a regeneration. The old life is gone and gladly forsaken in exchange for the new life and its abundant blessings. 2 Cor. 5:17 A life which is lived following the teachings of the Word of the Lord. A life which is lived not in our own strength but in His. He empowers each and every one with the ability to live for Christ. The Word of the Lord is an absolute necessity for spiritual growth. It is that which will guide us into all truth. He washes, shapes and moulds the life of the redeemed into the likeness of the Lord Jesus.

Problems with the spiritual life begin when we fail to heed the call of the Spirit to a work of sanctification. Sanctification may be the doctrine of a past generation but it is the solution to the problems of modern day Christians. It is not a dirty word or something which should be avoided but rather sought for and practiced by all who would follow Christ. The Holy Spirit is He who works in us, by our desire and permission, to form us into the likeness of Christ. To be sanctified is to be made holy. Not according to our own  standard of Christian living but being obedient to His will. A life of righteousness is a sign of belonging to the elect of the Lord. 1 Pet. 1:2 The call of the Spirit is to the chosen of the Lord. They will give evidence of having heard and received the call of the Spirit by seeking the cleansings of soul and spirit and having Him direct their path way. When it is recorded in the Word of truth, it is not something which may be disregarded. 2 Thess. 2:13 To know and adhere to the truth is liberty. John 8:32 There is nothing in life more valuable than the truth of the Word of the Lord. Therefore Solomon urged all, to buy the truth and sell it not. Prov. 23:23

THE LAW 28b

Do you like a challenge? Jesus presented a challenge to all to enter into the way of life eternal through the straight gate, in contrast to the broad gate. The spiritually liberal (the broad gate) look upon those who see the necessity of entering through the straight gate and walking the narrow way as being narrow minded.  Mt. 7:13-14 Most unfortunately, the broad way, the easy going, casual Christian life is not sufficient. The end of a lackadaisical, ho hum, half hearted attempt to follow a church, a pastor or a religion is destined and termed to end in destruction, by none other than the Lord Jesus. This is the popular, the easy way and many follow it.

The challenge is in following the Lord through the narrow gate and down the path of the narrow way. It is a life that is contrary to the desires of the natural, the carnal, human spirit with which all are born into this world. It will lead to a complete change of desire and attitude. Where our life’s were once dominated by the god of this world we are now free from his clutches to serve the Lord with all of our hearts. There must be a definite choice, we will follow the true and living God or the god of this world. It is impossible to serve both at one and the same time. Luke 16:13

A strong desire for freedom from oppressive political leadership is constantly being expressed in countries around the world. True, perfect liberty is to be found in the Lord Jesus. A liberty from the bondages of sin and iniquity. He whom the Son sets free, is fee indeed. John 8:36 All are born in sin and sharpened in iniquity. Ps. 51:5 The same bondage, slavery to the works of the flesh, is common to all mankind. Entering in through the straight gate, the Lord Jesus, the servant of sin, the captive, is liberated to enjoy the rest and peace of the Lord. Mt. 11:28

Jesus at times seemed to challenge individuals to a condition of a sinless life
which was beyond their capability, or was it? Jesus having healed the helpless man who was waiting at the pool to be healed, He commanded him to go and sin no more, less a worse illness come upon him. John 5:14 The same message was delivered to the woman taken in adultery. John 8:11 The admonition of the Apostle Paul was to stand fast, maintain strongly the liberty which we have found in the Lord Jesus. For by Him and in Him we have been set free from all sin. His pardon is complete. Go and sin no more. Take heed that the old bondages are not allowed to be revived. Gal. 5:1 Strive to enter in through the straight gate, walk the narrow way. It really pays off.

THE LAW  29

The greatest murderer known to man is not a person but a life style, introduced to Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, and subsequently passed on to all of their descendents.  Eze. 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. To die physically is common to mankind and cannot be avoided. To die spiritually, may be prevented by confessing and forsaking the old life of sin. Confession is not sufficient, there must also be a forsaking of the sinful past. “He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, But he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion. Prov. 28:13 NASB Confession and then a continuance in the same of pattern of life is not life but death. Being in Christ is an introduction to a whole new way for life. The old things, the life of sin is forsaken, a new life is created which is formulated after the life of Christ. ALL has become new. 2 Cor. 5:17 The person who has been born of the Spirit is God’s new man.

The blood of the Lord Jesus accomplishes a through cleansing when it is allowed to cleanse as is intended. It possesses the power and ability to cleanse from all sin. 1 John 1:7 Its work is to purify, separate, to cause to cease the sin that dominates the life of the repentant. It is time that we quit excusing ourselves and entered into the fullness of the joys of salvation. Today, we celebrate our political liberty in America. True liberty is found in the Word of the Lord Jesus. His truth sets free from all sin, nothing excluded, all still means exactly that, all, everything, completely. John 8:32-36

The average sermon preached to the average Christian is that which is called the principles of the doctrine of Christ. All of which are vital and most necessary. To build a proper foundation is essential to a strong Christian life.
However, we are urged to go beyond the baby stage and press on to maturity, to perfection. Heb. 6:1 The five fold ministry has been given to the church for the very purpose of guiding her into a state of perfection. Eph. 4:11-12 The importance of the subject is determined by the fact that the whole of that which ministers to the body of Christ is directed toward perfection. Essential to obtaining a status of maturity is obedience to the Word and a deep and true love for the Lord Jesus. Keeping the word is a sign that there is a real love for Him. Where that love is made manifest there will be a definite spiritual growth. 1 John 2:5 Every true accomplishment in life demands the setting of a goal and then devoting every effort possible to reach that goal. Our goals have been established by the Lord and His Word. The rewards are out of this world. They are eternal and everlasting. They are most definitely worth our every effort.

THE LAW  30

Heed the scathing words of the Apostle of love. “He who sins is of the devil.” 1 John 3:8 NKJV He then made it very clear that those who are born of God, do not commit sin. 1 John 3:9 Thus, we have a standard of righteousness established whereby we may determine our goal for a life in Christ. Every spiritual work accomplished in the person who has come to Christ is a step toward that new life which is to be found in the Lord Jesus. We are to be new creatures, not a make over of the old, in Christ Jesus. The old life becomes obnoxious when we begin that new life in Christ. The old life, the life of sin is to perish, to die, to pass away. To develop the new life is to become the dominant desire and drive of those born of God. 2 Cor. 5:17

Living for Christ becomes difficult only when we are double minded. Wanting the things of the Lord but at one and the same time desiring the beggarly elements of this world, will create an unstable Christian life. Again it is the Apostle of love, John who in a straight forward manner established a distinct separation between the things of the Lord and the things of this world. Emphatically he proclaimed that if a person loves this world the love of the Father is not in him. There is very definitely no compromise in such a statement. We are not left wondering just exactly what his meaning might be. 1 John 2:15 Then, just so that none reading his letter would be left wondering about the point which he was making, he defined what the scriptures mean by the “world.” 1 John 2:16

John listed three categories under which all sin may be gathered. The lust of the flesh. Those things which satisfy the natural, carnal man. A burning desire to participate illegitimately in actions which are contrary to a clean life. It is the craving of the carnal man until he is able to satisfy that burning desire, usually when he has taken action of some kind. The strange thing about sin, is that it never satisfies. The desire is not quenched. Those participating must move on to the next opportunity to try to satisfy that inward craving. The lust of the eyes. How often it is stated, I must have that. They see, they crave and then there is a strong drive in the heart to acquire that which is lusted after. The pride of life. A subject covering almost every element of the nature of mankind. Pride was the downfall of that beautiful creature called Lucifer. Pride will control every portion of the life of those who fall victim to its deadly influence. Where any or all of these three are in any measure of control there is a need for cleansing and freedom from their influence. 1 John 2:16

LAW  31

The individual born of the Spirit of the Lord becomes a new creature. The desires, the mode of life, will be changed into a much more positive and life giving way. The actions and direction of life which were of this world, are the old things, now, in Christ Jesus, all becomes new. 2 Cor. 5:17 The walk, the manner of life of the old man was according to the ways of this world, the world of sin. Eph. 2:2 But now, being in Christ Jesus will produce a whole new life style. Not only has He saved us, made us to be new creatures, but He has elevated us to sit together with Him in an atmosphere which is heavenly, while we are still on this earth. Eph. 2:5-6

The wisdom of Solomon caused him to observe that as a person “thinks in his heart, so is he.” Prov. 23:7a The heart, the inner entity, that which is not visible, the spirit, this is the real person. It is in this inner man that the decisions of life are made. The outside may present a facade common to man but the real, the eternal is that which everlasting. This hidden man will determine whether one lives after the ways of this world or after the will and purpose of the Lord. A drive for the things of the flesh or of the spirit will originate in this area of our being. If the desire for the pleasures of the world and flesh prevail, then that person is dead in trespasses and sin. If the longing and the drive is for the things which pertain to the Lord and are spiritual it is a sign that they are indeed new creatures in Christ. Rom. 8:5

Paul drew a distinct line between that which is carnal and that which is spiritual. There is no grey area, no free zone. Each and every person is either mindful of the things of the flesh or of the Spirit, or things spiritual. The carnal mind in God’s enemy. In contrast, the Spiritual mind is everlasting life and eternal peace. Which would the wise chose? Confusion arises when we try to combine the two. Anyone trying to do so will be most unhappy, unstable and vacillating in their walk with the Lord. The ways of the flesh, carnal, worldly, can only produce death, not mere physical death but spiritual, eternal separation from the Lord. On the other hand, is that which produces a deep sense of peace and tranquility. A certain knowledge of possessing life eternal. That which is achieved by walking in the Spirit. Here is to be found the life of joy and happiness. It is not dependent on the things which we possess of this world but a certain and absolute knowledge that we are the Lord’s. Rom. 8:6 Paul likewise states; that it is an impossibility for those who live after the flesh to please the Lord in any way. Rom. 8:8 Challenging words to say the least.

LAW  32

There is a definite language leading to the process of coming to the Lord. If a person does not understand that language then they do not understand any language. It is comprised of meaningful words and is found in almost all the languages of the world. It begins with the word conviction, how can that possible be simply a religious term which the unsaved do not understand. It is a word which is in daily use and explains the status of one who has been found guilty of a wrong doing. Inasmuch as all have sinned, we all stand guilty before the Lord. Rom. 3:23

Conviction of sin leads to condemnation. The end of condemnation is death and eternal separation from the Lord. The sentence of death may be nullified by the individual believing in the Word, the instructions, of the Lord Jesus. With that obedience, eternal life is granted that believing individual. They have the assurance of everlasting life. John 5:24 Their positive reaction to the Word will alter the whole pattern of their life. They will have become a new creature, a new person, in the Lord Jesus. The old life, the life of sin is gone. A whole new life is found in the Lord Jesus. 2 Cor. 5:17 The preceding actions are based on Divine requirements being met. The beginning is the confession of our sin unto the Lord. Too many today want to become a part of the family of the Lord without first admitting, that is, confessing their sin.

Confession is vital and is the first step of having a real heart felt experience with the Lord. We cannot be forgiven of those things which we will not admit to and for which we feel condemnation. While confession of sin may be difficult for mankind to do because of human pride, it will open the door to a life of joy and freedom, with the ultimate being eternal life. 1 John 1:9

The confession of sin is the verbal part of repentance. Full hearted repentance is an absolute necessity for entrance into the kingdom of the Lord. The message of Jesus was repent or perish. Luke 13:3 To repent is to express sorrow for our past life while seeking deliverance and cleansing from it. In order for the past to be expunged there must be repentance. The family of the Lord is not one which we join, we must be born into it. There can be no new birth without repentance. Just repeating words given us by others does not bring forth real repentance. The cry of repentance must come from the heart, from deep within the spirit of the repentant. For with the heart man believes and with the mouth, verbally, words are spoken and true confession is made unto salvation.  There is a great need for true repentance, that the so called, body of Christ may be cleansed from all unrighteousness. Rom. 10:10

LAW  33

The process of repentance and confession of sin unto the Lord is to be followed by the forsaking of the old pattern of life. The guilt, the conviction of being a sinner, which brought us to the Lord in the first place, will continue if we persist in living the old life. Hidden, secret sins are a definite hindrance to spiritual growth.  When we have overcome the frailties and weakness of that past life, spiritual growth will follow. In the process we may well discover that there are yet other areas where we need further victory. In all of these, the Lord is more than willing to work a deliverance in our life.  Prov. 28:13 The doctrine of the early church as presented by the Apostle Paul was that the new converts, manifest by their actions, the fact of having been saved. Acts 26:20

Good works are not able to save, but once having come to Christ, righteous measures become a way of life. As when the priest ministered in the tabernacle and the temple, there was a laver for washing prepared where they were to wash prior to ministering before the Lord. Repentance leads to the first washing which is by the shed blood of the Lamb of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. Rev. 1:5 It is here, in this spiritual experience, that our conscience is “purged”, liberated from the guilt and condemnation of past sins. A freedom, a release, a total pardon such as none other, is displayed in the life of the one cleansed by the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Heb. 9:14 The work of redemption as it is found in the Lord Jesus is full and complete. When we walk in the light of His Word we are cleansed from all sin. There is total forgiveness that we might thoroughly enjoy continuous release from all sin. 1 John 1:7

Then there is the washing of baptism. An act performed after having been washed in the blood of Christ. This was the answer that Peter gave to the question of what must be done in order to be saved, repent and be baptized for the remission on sins. Not only would they receive the gift of salvation by the gift of the Holy Spirit is given the seeking believer. Acts 2:38 Also in the development of the spiritual life is that all important cleansing which is wrought by the Word of the Lord. Eph. 5:26 Every member of the body of Christ, the church, is challenged to come to the fullness of the measure of the man Christ Jesus. We are privileged to live His life in this present world, if we will but meet the necessary standard  established for us by the Word of the Lord. Eph. 4:13 We are not presented with a challenge which is unreachable. With Him all things are possible. Not only can it be obtained, it must be our goal and by His help we will reach it.

LAW 34

There is no greater achievement in spiritual growth than to reach the “high calling” of the Lord, which is the revelation of the life of Christ in the individual who truly believes on the Lord Jesus. The Apostle Paul set the fulfillment of the manifestation of Christ in him as the ultimate objective of his life. Having clearly established the fact that there was a place in Christ where the same perfection found in the Lord could be known by him, he began to press toward the mark. Phil. 3:14 Pressing toward the mark cannot be a hit and miss situation. It demands strong, persistent, consistent seeking after. There must be an all consuming desire and a great love in order to gain the prize.

Just how desperately should we seek the Lord? That depends upon how sincerely one really wants to do the perfect will of the Lord. Take for instance the reaction of Asa (healer) the king of Judah when Azariah (whom Jehovah helps), by the inspiration of the Spirit confronted Asa with a message from the Lord which holds true, even for today. It is simple but factual. If you serve the Lord, He will be with you. If you abandon the Lord He will abandon you. 2 Chr. 15:2 When the left Him, they were soon in trouble. Then returning to Him, He in His mercy was found of them.
2 Chr. 15:4 Does that somehow have a familiar ring to it? Under such sloppy spiritual conditions, there was no peace. 2 Chr. 15:5 Asa responded to the words of the prophecy and cleaned up their worship. The Word changes conditions, with change there is going to be a great difference. So earnest was Asa in his purpose of returning to the Lord that he passed a law containing the sentence of death on all who would not seek the Lord. Incidentally, that automatically takes place when we fail to seek the Lord, there is spiritual death. 2 Chr. 15:13

May their reaction be that of the modern day church. They all entered into a vow with loud shouting’s and instruments promising to seek the Lord. They gladly received the words of the king and promised with all of their heart and their whole desire that they would diligently seek the Lord. So simple, yet the results are profound. 2 Chr. 15:14 The peace of the Lord, the joy of the Lord, the blessings of the Lord are all still available to those who will give Him first place in their lives and will whole heartedly seek the Lord. In that day the Lord gave them rest, no disturbances with the neighboring countries. The rest, the peace of the Lord is evident in the life of those who diligently seek the Lord. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you. Mat. 6:33 Simple but true.

LAW  35

Freedom, one of the most sought after principles of human existence on this earth. Wars have been fought as men have sought to obtain their freedom and that of their children and following generations. Multitudes of those who may be politically free are still bound by the fetters of sin and iniquity. Real liberty is found in the forgiveness of sin granted to those who repent before the Lord of their life of sin. In Christ alone is to be found deliverance form the law of sin and death. The new birth will produce the life of the Spirit whereby sin will no longer have dominion over those in Christ Jesus.
Rom. 8:2

Those who are loosed from the servitude of sin become the servants of the Lord. It is the intent of the Lord that the redeemed be completely delivered from the chains of iniquity and begin to serve in righteousness before the Lord. Rom. 6:18 The intent and purpose of the Lord Jesus in working a work of deliverance in the lives of those whom He healed and delivered is found in His words to them. To the bed ridden man whom He commanded to take up his bed and walk, He said; “go and sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.” John 5:14 When Jesus said he had been made whole His remark was not only to the physical healing but to the spiritual as well.
Therefore he was urged by Jesus not to repeat his life of sin. Real physical healing brings with it the spiritual as well, note James 5:15, “if he has committed sins they shall be forgiven him.” The Lord does a through job when He touches an individual with healing virtue. It is a work accomplished in body, soul and spirit, the complete man.

Why do we compromise and say that we have to sin every day in word, thought or deed when the Lord has promised us freedom from sin. The price  for absolute freedom is not the price which the flesh wants to pay. We want everything which was purchased for us at Calvary in the death of the Lord Jesus, but at no cost to us. Yes there is a price to be paid, a commitment to be made, in order to receive all that the Lord has for us. We know for certain that the allegiance shown by the Apostle Paul had it’s roots in his complete surrender to the Christ of God. He said; “I am crucified with Christ.” Gal. 2:20  That is the secret of utter victory over, and a complete release from sin. Let Christ, through the Spirit and the Word  live and reign in the spiritual man. Whatever path is taken, be it by a spiritual experience or by a bad but learning experience in this world, the ultimate goal of the Holy spirit is to bring the flesh to the cross of Christ. There we are to suffer with Him, that we also might reign with Him. 2 Tim. 2:12

LAW  36

Paul, writing to the Colossian church stated that, “ye are dead.”  Col. 3:3 He was not accusing them of being a spiritually dead church but rather evaluating their spiritual status in Christ. In all actuality, this was a good thing and greatly beneficial. It indicated that they were following the proper spiritual blueprint in building their spiritual life. There are definite, necessary and well defined steps which are to be followed if we are to attain unto the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. A goal toward which Paul was urgently pressing. Phil. 3:14 Having been born of the Word and the Spirit, the next step is identification with Christ in His death. An accomplishment which leads one to the waters of baptism. Water baptism is meant to be a burial service for the old man, the old life, the life of sin. As we are to be crucified with Him we are also to be buried with Him. He has led the way and established the example which we are to follow. Rom. 6:3

Death is never a pleasant subject. However, in this case it is the door to an ever expanding spiritual life. As a matter of fact, there can be no meaningful spiritual life unless the example established for us by the Lord Jesus be followed. The grave, the waters of baptism, open up a vast vista of spiritual blessings and benefits which may be enjoyed to the full. Not only is there crucifixion with Him, there is also burial with Him, which leads us to resurrection life with Him. All the virtues of that new life in Christ are available to those who experience this spiritual springing to life. They are risen with Christ. Col. 3:1 They walk in newness of life. Rom. 6:4-5

In that new life in Christ there are definite, positive, outward signs of the process at work. The whole spiritual procedure is to free the person from the affections and lusts of this present world. This life with Christ is one of liberty from the servitude of the desires of the flesh and of sin. Rom. 6:6  Having completed the basic works of  salvation, we are now privileged to live with Him. Rom. 6:8 Those who are truly born of the Spirit are, “in Christ Jesus.” His life is now made manifest in them. All things be come new, that which is the old life, the old man, will pass away. When Christ is made welcome and dwells within, that new life is motivated by the power of the Lord. He lives His life in us. 2 Cor. 5:17 This proves to be a matter of life or death. Life if we serve the Lord Jesus and death if we serve the god of this world and our own fleshly desires. The exhortation of the scriptures is to bring the works of the flesh into subjection, to completely eradicate them and make certain that they are replaced with the life which is found in the Lord Jesus Christ. Rom. 8:13

LAW  37

The church of this generation is highly privileged above all generations past. This is the time of the outpouring of the Spirit as promised through the prophet Joel (Joel 2:28), then restated on the day of Pentecost by the Apostle Peter. Acts 2:17 As we come to the climax of the age the flow of the Spirit, like the waters of Ezekiel’s vision will be waters to swim in because of their abundance. The Lord will keep His promise, the question is, will the church be prepared for a mighty move of the Spirit of the Lord.

As with the Tabernacle in the wilderness and the Temple built by Solomon in Jerusalem, after the proper offerings of sanctification had been made the Lord visited in a tremendous display of glory by filling them with the cloud of His presence. He will occupy the Temple, His Church with a full display of His glorious presence by dwelling with them, literally occupying their spirit by His Spirit, and walking with them in the power of His might. This can only take place when the church has separated themselves from every bondage and hindrance of every worldly mannerism. Therefore the call of the Spirit, even now, is to come out from among them, be separate and touch not the unclean, impure things of this world. 2 Cor. 6:16-17

The idea of a life totally dedicated and consecrated to the holiness of the Lord is not a popular theme in today’s church world. Knowing and appreciating the promises of the Lord creates an attitude whereby we seek for a cleansing from all that is impure, both of the flesh and the spirit. 2 Cor. 7:1 Seeking earnestly the holiness which may only be found in the Lord. Holiness is not a bad word nor a work that should be shunned. The church has been called of the Lord to walk before Him in purity and righteousness. As He is the very essence of holiness, so in revealing Himself in the life of His people He will sanctify them and make them to be holy in all of our conduct and actions. For it has been written, “be ye holy for I am Holy.” 1 Peter 1:15-16 As His nature is very holiness and purity. When born of His Spirit that same desire is imparted to that individual who now has His person and being in their hearts. The contrast is drawn between the spiritual minded and the fleshly minded for us by the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Romans. Rom. 8:4-8 He made a strong and bold statement which brings the subject to an either, or, situation. If we have the Spirit of Christ, which is holy, then we have Him dwelling in our hearts. If our conduct does not exemplify the life of Christ in a spirit of holiness, then he said we do not belong to Him. Straight forward, strong words but true. Rom. 8:9

LAW  38

The Lord, in His infinite ability has built into each and every human being a distinctiveness whereby we are identified. It is astonishing to learn that among the millions of human kind, no two persons are identical. There are many ways of identifying a particular person, one of which, is the manner in which they walk. The walk of a Christian should most definitely set them apart from all others. If we are going to declare our identification with Christ, then, because we are “in Christ” and He is in us, all should be able to be assured of our confession by our walking even as He walked. 1 John 1:7  Every Christian is presented with the challenge of bearing His likeness in all things. Our example is ever the Christ of God. We are privileged with the ability to walk in His footsteps, in all things. That includes the possibility of having to suffer with Christ. The Lord Jesus is ever and in all ways the true example of a walk which is pleasing to the Father. 1 Peter 2:21 Take special notice, this is the call of the Lord to all who would follow Him.

To walk in His footsteps is to live the life of Christ. It has great benefits, in this life and in the future eternity which is before us. Jesus proclaimed Himself to be the light of the world. John 8:12 When we are “in Christ,” we walk in that light. When we walk in that Light, we fellowship with a light that is eternal. A light which dispels all darkness. Darkness must flee when light shines forth. Light and life are synonymous, in the Lord Jesus. Life cannot exist without light, be it the created light which the Lord placed in the sun and stars, or spiritual light which is revealed when we accept the Lord Jesus as our Savior. Jesus is the light of life.

When we walk in THAT light, the Lord Jesus, we are privileged to have a communication, a fellowship, a companionship, where we enter into a partnership with the Father and the Son, the Lord Jesus. 1 John 1:3, 7 In this blessed spiritual relationship, the blood of the Lord Jesus cleanses us from ALL sin. The confession of sin to Him assures us of absolute forgiveness, cleansing and the ability to live a righteous life likened unto the example which He has left us. 1 John 1:9 He is the very embodiment of righteousness and He would “set us in His steps.” Ps. 85:13 The ability to walk in Him, is not our own, it is imparted to us by His mercy and grace. In that light there is to be found the revelation of His great and magnificent love. Those walking with Him when committing their way to Him, soon discover the magnitude of His love. Love, real love is found in Him. He is the very essence of love. Eph. 5:2

Looking at Christianity there would seem to be degrees of the Christian life. That, however is not the case as far as the Word of the Lord is concerned. The goal of the Apostle Paul was the excellence, the surpassing greatness (NIV), of the knowledge of Christ Jesus the Lord. Phil. 3:8 What he envisioned spiritually was the fullness of the life of Christ, as the Son of the Father, being manifest in him. The call of the Spirit of Christ in calling the world to repentance is that His very own glory and virtue might be made known in its completeness in them. In order to accomplish this glorious work in His prized possession, by the gift of His divine power, He has imparted unto His true church all the elements of His life and godliness. 2 Peter 1:3 This would elevate those who are really His to an understanding and a participation of things spiritual which is far above nominal Christianity.

Life in the hereafter, life eternal is assured to those who know Him. Not those who know about Him but those possessing the knowledge of the redemption which is found in the Lord Jesus alone. John 17:3 In order for mankind to understand Him they must have received of His Spirit. All who are born of the Spirit have received of His spirit but most definitely not the fullness. Even those who have been baptized with the Spirit have only received the earnest, the beginning, of their inheritance. Eph. 1:13-14 There is so much more both in this life and that which is to come. How can we ever come to a complete knowledge of one who is infinite.

The Comforter whom Jesus would send, one like unto Himself, was to show the disciples things to come as well as teaching them the things pertaining to the  Lord Jesus. John 16:13-15 Therefore we find Paul praying for the Ephesian church that in receiving the Holy Spirit, He (the Spirit) might impart unto them the spirit or gift of wisdom and revelation that they might possess a full  knowledge of the Lord Jesus. All that we need today to know about the Lord is recorded in the Word of the Lord. Heb. 10:7 The understanding of the Word will come through the revelation of the Spirit. Even the mysteries found in the book are opened to those who seek to do His will. Paul stated that his knowledge of the mysteries came by revelation. All revelation must agree with the book, the Word of the Lord. Eph. 3:3 As a matter of fact, all that he knew and understood of the gospel he had received of the Spirit of the Lord by revelation. Gal. 1:12 There is a great need in the body of Christ today for a deeper understanding of the Word, not an adding to it but an adherence to its precepts.

LAW  40

The privilege of serving the Lord is a wondrous element of life, both now and in eternity. To explore the high calling which is to be found in the Lord Jesus will open infinite areas and essentials of spiritual life. The Lord Jesus is the source of all life. He is life, therefore dispenses life and light to illuminate the pathway of eternal life. For  life to exist there must be a constant supply of light. Jesus is the light of life and those who would have the light of life will respond to His call to follow Him. John 8:12

John declared the glorious status of those who will walk in that light to be that of “sons of God.” 1 John 3:2 It is the law of the Spirit that we be born of God. Not only created naturally but by entering into a relationship which the Word accomplishes in our spiritual being, by our being born again by the incorruptible seed, the Word of God. 1 Pet. 1:23 The only possible way of membership in the family of the Lord and subsequently living eternally in His glorious presence is to be born into His family. Those who are in Christ, will give evidence of that new life by the way of separation from the old life. 2 Cor. 5:17

ALL, as many as are giving evidence of being led by the Spirit of the Lord are showing that new nature which is to be found in a true knowledge of the Lord Jesus. One vital manifestation of the new life is a hunger, an intense desire to both hear and to study the Word of the Lord. The Word is His method of communicating and directing our lives into the blessings of the new creature. When we are led by the Spirit, Rom. 8:14, He will cause one to know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that we are His children. Being a child of God brings with it all the rights of sons, among them the ability to be an heir of God and a joint heir with the Lord Jesus. Rom. 8:17 Please note in particular, that we are to be glorified together, equally, as one. All that He is and ever will be He desires to share and share alike with those who are the love and delight of His life. Rom. 8:17

There is no uncertainty about belonging to His family for He will send the Comforter, the Holy Spirit on all who ask of Him. This is a vital part of our spiritual advancement and growth for He makes the Word to be understood for He has come to reveal Christ. He is our assurance. 1 John 4:13 He is also the seal of our redemption, which bears witness of the reality of the promises of the Lord. Eph. 4:30 The Word of the Lord offers a constant challenge to His people that we might enter in and partake of all that He has made available to us.
