I've been a book junkie since childhood.  The saddest thing in the world to me was when my bookshelf became too full or I was expected to throw away the books that I had "outgrown".  

   While my bookshelves are still too full --pouring over with old favorites and those that are sure to become new favorites once I get the time to read them all-- and most people may think that I should have outgrown many of the books on my shelf, I can't bring myself to part with them easily.  I have even confessed, only half-jokingly, that I had children so that I could keep my Dr. Seuss books.

   While I always loved to immerse myself in a good book, I found a similar pleasure in creating stories of my own.  I knew in school that I wanted a future that involved literature.  I may have followed that path if a guidance counselor hadn't informed me that unless I planned to be a teacher, there really wasn't much of a future in writing.  I definitely didn't want to be a teacher and so I gave up on my dream.

   Years later, I am happily finding myself as a writer again.  I'm exploring different genres and continually striving to learn more about the business and the craft of writing.  I have found my niche as a children's writer, but the world is an open book isn't it?

   Through this page I hope to share what I can with others who may be at the beginning of their own dreams.  I'll share what knowledge I have about writing, offer book recommendations and links to other resources as well as a little of my own journey.
 
   Of course, with a baby and two other young boys my writing time has become challenged.  It's hard to focus on longer projects when I have 5-15 minutes at any given time to write.  So, I've been exploring other outlets for my energy.  I have been involved in some web writing and blogging lately.  Now I've  had to come to terms with the fact that I'm not driven by creativity so much as by the desire to tell other people what I think on a variety of subjects!
