ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT: WHO REPRESENTATIVE'S OFFICE, NIGERIA
DURATION: 2 YEARS, (RENEWABLE)
OBJECTIVE
WHO Representative's Office supports the formulation,implementation and evaluation of National Health For all strategies; develops and manages the Organization's programme of technical co-operation at country level and coordinates the Organization's activities with those of other collaborators and with the Government's National health Programme.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the WHO Representative, the incumbent:
- Serves as WHO focal point for malaria prevention and control activities within the large context of RBM development in the country, and provides support to all relevant government departments, institutions, RBM Partners including the Global Fund.
- Provides technical support to the Ministry of Health to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate an effective prevention and control programme for Malaria within the context of Roll Back Malaria.
- Organizes training of health personnel in the various priority interventions (case management, prevention, epidemiological surveilance, epidemics prevention, operational research, monitoring and evaluation) and contribute to the strengthening of health care management at central, intermediates, district and local levels,
- Provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Health to develop/strength integrated surveillance and data management to improve the health care system and its preparedness and response to Malaria.
- Promotes operational research on various aspects of malaria prevention and control and assists the national officials in the developmnt and implementation of such projects.
- Prepares monthly progress reports of activites completed.
- Submit monthly progress reports to WR with copy to WHO Regional Office.
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
- University degree in Medicine with Postgraduate degree in Public Health or epidemiology would be an advantage.
- Ten years of pratical experience in planning,implementing,monitoring and evaluating disease prevention and control activities.
- Experience in working with bilateral or multilateral Organisations at country level.
- Proven competence in modern traning skills and/or ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship.
- Good knowledge and ability to use the computer software for word processing,spreadsheets,power point,and the basic epidemiologcial statistical analysis.
- Excellent knowledge of English and of local languages.
