I specialize in the Philosophies of Language and Logic, but I have also serious interests in Metaphysics, Epistemology and Semantics. I did my British PhD in Sheffield, where I was lucky enough to be supervised by Bob Hale and Dominic Gregory. My examiners were Crispin Wright and Rosanna Keefe, and my thesis was on Intuitionism and Logical Revision (and on the epistemology of logic more generally). Before coming to Sheffield, I was a PhD student at the University of Rome "La Sapienza", where I wrote a thesis on the Paradox of Knowability under the direction of Cesare Cozzo and Carlo Cellucci. I held an Analysis Studentship in 2009/10, and I've been a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität between November 2011 and January 2012. From January 2012, I am a Philosophy lecturer at the School of European Culture and LanguagesUniversity of Kent

A copy of my CV is available here.

My future work will mostly be on the semantic paradoxes, logical consequence, the epistemology of logic, and absolute generality (or lack thereof). Other research interests include the inferentialist approach to logic, logical revision, and the realism/anti-realism debate. I also have have a strong side interest on future contingents and relative truth.

Together with Massimiliano Carrara, I am editing a special issue of Logique et Analyse on Logical Consequence, forthcoming in 2013, and a special issue of Topoi on Paradox and Logical Revision, forthcoming in 2014.

I am co-organizing two conferences on truth, to be held in Munich, in March and July 2012 respectively. The first focuses on whether truth should be investigated axiomatically or semantically (CFP here), the second will be on paradox and logical revision (CFP here). Both events will be (truly) awesome.

Some recent projects include:

  • Validity and truth-preservation, in preparation for Unifying the Philosophy of Truth (D. Achourioti, D., H. Galinon, J. Martinez eds), Springer.
  • Validity and expressibility, in preparation for a special issue of Logique et Analyse on Logical Consequence (M. Carrara and J. Murzi eds).
  • Classical Harmony and Separability (in progress, some sketchy slides can be found here).
  • Inferentialism and understanding (in progress, with Florian Steinberger).
  • Logical Inferentialism (book in progress, with Florian Steinberger; the first monograph on the subject).
  • Categoricity and Conservativeness (with Ole T. Hjortland; in preparation for a volume on Logical Inferentialism edited by Florian Steinberger and Neil Tennant).
  • Is Logical Knowledge Dispositional? (with Florian Steinberger - under review).
  • Validity Curry (under review).

My publications and forthcoming articles include:

During the Autumn Semester 2008/9, I taught a Third Year/MA course on realism and anti-realism - here is the syllabus. This Spring, I will teach a Metaphysics, Truth and Relativism module at the University of Kent
