Some links regarding Afghanistan: Thorough article on Afghanistan from the Washington Post. Ms. Hodei Sultan, of the USIP, mentioned a movie during her discussion at NOVA. Since then, she mentioned a few more to me. 1) The doc she mentioned in the talk: The Beauty Academy of Kabul. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0439130/ I just watched this and it’s interesting and fairly short (1hr, 15m). This film can be streamed online with Netflix. 2) Daughters of Afghanistan. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1859473/ You can get a DVD copy through Netflix. 3) Camp Victory, Afghanistan. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1601184/ I’m having a tough time trying to find a copy of this, but it looks interesting. As you probably already know, The Kite Runner is a good movie. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0419887/ Kite Runner is also a great book. The author of The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini, also wrote another fictional story of Afghanistan through the eyes of two women over a few decades, that took the characters through the pre-Soviet era, to Soviet occupation years, to the Taliban, and beyond, in A Thousand Splendid Suns.
