Imperial, NE. On a hot windy afternoon on June 22, 1939 at Shickley, NE, the 4th daughter of Dave and Elma (Springer) Steider was born. She was named Margaret Ann. As a child, her dream was to become a Nurse or a Missionary, as she was always visiting the neighborhood and helping anyone in need. Margaret's love of Nursing brought her full circle in her career, beginning at Fillmore County Hospital 51 years ago. Since that time she has been providing patient care throughout the Midwest. She attained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master's in Nursing Administration. She was the housemother at the University of Nebraska's chapter of Farmhouse Fraternity for 9 years, and also worked at Hospice Care of Nebraska. According to Margaret's wishes, her body was donated to science so that others in the Medical field might benefit. Margaret retired in Imperial, NE to be near her youngest grandchildren. Margaret always had many close friends throughout her colorful life, and could engage just about anyone, anytime or anywhere. She felt it was important to be open, and found pleasure in learning something new every day. Her path was always on "the road less traveled", and if asked, she would say "I'd do it all over again", as life was all about the people she met in this journey. Margaret was the mother of 3 children, Craig (wife Terri) Uden, Elwood, NE, Carmen (husband John) McKeever, Wymore, NE, and Amy (husband Rex) Prior, Imperial. ALFRED MEYER, 79, March 12, 1932 to November 27, 2011; LEXINGTON (Father of Ray Meyer)

Alfred Rudolph Meyer, 79, of Lexington died November 27, 2011 in Lexington. He was the son of Rudolph and Lydia (Sasse) Meyer of Smith County, Kansas. Alfred was born March 12, 1932 on a farm near Athol, Kansas. He was baptized April 10, 1932.

In 1950, Alfred enlisted in the United States Air Force, and in 1952 he was deployed to Great Britain. The British Road Service went on strike, and for the next four years Alfred and 364 other servicemen, known as the Third Motor Transport Squadron, were ordered to travel throughout Great Britain moving freight. He and his squadron were stationed at the Ayrshire Hotel in Aryshire, Scotland. There, in the mornings, some servicemen would walk across the street to a tea house and have breakfast. And, it was there he met Jessie McCulloch who worked at the tea house. Jessie remembers the infamous American servicemen who dunked donuts in their tea and raised eyebrows at the tea house. Nevertheless . . .

On August 11, 1955, Al and Jessie were married in Patna, Scotland. He was born March 1, 1932, at Eustis to Robert and Martha (Kleinknecht) Geiger. On Aug. 25, 1957, he married Marlene Jensen at Cozad.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Janet McKee and her husband, Mark, of Lexington and Marcia Geiger of Landers, Calif.; son, Eric Geiger and his wife, Jodi, of Omaha; granddaughter, Taryn Geiger of Omaha; brothers, Raymond Geiger and his wife, Judith, of Johnson Lake, Robert Geiger Jr. and his wife, Colleen, of Thurman, Iowa; sister, Rose Ann Pasley and her husband, Michael, of Evergreen, Colo.; sister-in-law, Trudy Geiger of Cozad; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Otto briefly attended school at Orofino before moving on to District 69 schools. He graduated from Cozad High School in 1949. In 1952, Otto entered the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. On Otto's first day back from the service, he met his future wife, Marlene Jensen, at Green Valley Café in Cozad. Otto and Marlene made their home on the Geiger family farm southwest of Cozad where they raised their family, farmed and resided their entire married lives.

Otto's strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit drove him through a successful career in farming. His ingenuity allowed him to stay at the forefront of farming techniques and technology. He was perpetually modifying equipment so that it performed more effectively and to his specific requirements.

While he was dedicated to his farming operation, he also was committed to serving the public in many ways. Among Otto's enjoyments were wood carving, enjoying good meals and traveling with his wife. Otto also had an affinity for MG cars, a liking that eventually led to him owning two of the unique classic cars.

Otto viewed the world through analytical eyes all of his life. He would eventually be slowed by a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease compounded by dementia with Lewy bodies, but not before making a profound difference in the lives of his friends and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edwin; and son-in-law, Tom Mailhot.
