What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a traditional form of medicine originating from the Indian sub-continent. Having developed over the course of thousands of years it is a vast system encompassing a wide number of healing modalaties ranging from massage to herbal remedies. In addition to taking into account symptoms it also takes into consideration the impact of the seasons, a person's diet, life style, body type (dosha), emotional well being and in some cases even astrological influences. It is a complete and comprehensive system of medicine in its own right. It is a timeless lineage of healing designed not only to relieve suffering and ill health, but also promote optimum well-being throughout our lives. It's knowledge encompasses the body, mind and spirit and how they integrate to manifest each of us as a unique individual. Ayurveda teaches us to accept our health, emotions and spirit at every given moment as perfection, while simultaneously seeing opportunity for enhancement. Thus grace and hope are ever present. Its eternal and everlasting knowledge is founded in the the art and science of understanding the cause of dis-ease, its symptoms and applying treatment. There are many dedicated Ayurvedic centers located throughout the world although the majority of them are to be found in India. Additionally, some spa retreat centers offer a limited number of Ayurvedic treatments, usually in the form of massages and wraps.
