Here we will be catching up with all of our speakers, and hopefully some of our delegates too, in order to find out why they will be coming to #FAM09, what makes them tick, and what they would like to see on the discussion table.

Tell me a little bit about yourself....
Curious outgoing geek who has
always felt the need to question everything. I helped to start a .com
which floated on the AIM market in the heady days of the dot com gold
rush. But my initial background in computers was purely in software
development tools.
Interests vary from Computing/Informatics, to politics and economics.
Happiest in Devon thinking, "Now what if?..."
What will you bring to #FAM09?
Do you have any answers to any of the 'big questions' and would you like to pose any questions?
How will the Federation accommodate user centric IDs?
Slowly, lots of steering boards, probably as many as the British Navy have had to date!
In a perfect world - do you see Identity Management?
If it is a public ID, left to Commercial Companies and governement
regulation - the management will be expensive bureaucratic chaos. So, if you truly value your Digital Identity you will be managing it yourself to maintain your reputation.
Do we need a unique educational identifier?
No,but it would be extremely useful, in terms of utility, cost efficiency
and possibly the contribution it would make to the social networking of
the scientific community and it's ability to pool research knowledge. I think it might be more practical to have two or three during an academic lifetime.
One that takes your from primary to end of secondary education. Another that takes you through Higher Education and or Uni, based on your LEA
Lastly your academic identitier which you sign your research papers
with, and this is likely to be issued and maintained where you obtained
your Phd/MPhil etc.
What would you like the delegates to be thinking about?
The network consequences of perhaps using an OpenID as a academic identifier, check out the pioneering work at mendeley.com

What should we order you from the bar?
Mine's a Gin and Tonic please. |

Tell me a little bit about yourself....
I suffer from a large degree of internal conflict between the civil libertarian in me -- who thinks privacy is all important -- and the IDM specialist in me -- who wants to implant everyone with RFID chips and track their every move. Perpetual student at heart. If I could have £1 for every time I've said the word "Shibboleth", I'd be typing this email on a solid gold diamond-encrusted keyboard.
What will you bring to #FAM09? (please feel free to answer this however you see fit ;) )
My beloved MacBook Air, an open mind, and a large craving for tea.
Do you have any answers to any of the 'big questions' and would you like to pose any questions?
Yes, but I can't give you any of those answers because I'd spoil the ending for you all.
What would you like the delegates to be thinking about?
Users, users, users. Don't forget the real world users. They're absolutely central to what FAM is about, so don't forget about them!
What should we order you from the bar?
A pint of decent ale, or a G&T. Maybe both.

Tell me a little bit about yourself....
Another grumpy old Scottish techie. Camera-shy photographer
What will you bring to #FAM09?
I used to answer "enough gadgetry for three ordinary people". These days, perhaps only two
Do you have any answers to any of the 'big questions' and would you like to pose any questions?
In a perfect world... identity technologies would be nearly invisible.
The question would be: how do we get there from here?
What would you like the delegates to be thinking about?
What do we do today that's essential, and what will we look back on as incidental?
What should we order you from the bar?
A pint of Guinness would be lovely. And a packet of salt and vinegar crisps if you can manage it...

Tell me a little bit about yourself....
I’m the Collections Team Manager for JISC Collections, which means that I do lots of negotiating with publishers and lots of talking about negotiating with publishers. When I’m not doing that I am trying to stop my house falling down, and answering increasingly complicated questions from my 5 year old about international relations.
What will you bring to #FAM09?
Given that I am incapable of travelling light, I will be bringing too much
Do you have any answers to any of the 'big questions' and would you like to pose any questions?
I would like to see Google federated (that is probably a really stupid answer so apologies.
What would you like the delegates to be thinking about?
Not everything has a technological solution.
What should we order you from the bar?
I may have imagined it, but I heard there was some nice ale around? |

Tell me a little bit about yourself....
Currently a "stateless ex-patriot citizen", so says the US, happily living in Switzerland. And, I work on that Shib stuff.
What will you bring to #FAM09? (please feel free to answer this however you see fit ;)
Still trying to find the perfect thing to harass Rhys with on his home turf. He says he won't take me to see Torchwood. :(
Do you have any answers to any of the 'big questions' and would you like to pose any questions?
User-centric identity, in it's purest form, is a fairy tale.
What would you like the delegates to be thinking about?
Think about the problems to be solved. Do not focus on the technology you might use to address them. What should we order you from the bar? A shot, or bottle, of really good Vodka (i.e. not Absolut, Smirnoff. |

Tell me a little bit about yourself....
I like FAM (honestly) but I'd rather be: Skiing, Flying, Cycling, Walking in the mountains, Swimming in the Sea, In Greece, In France, sitting down with a bottle of wine and a bowl of olives (can I stop yet?)
What will you bring to #FAM09?
2 pairs of socks, 2 shirts, a spare pair of trousers, a toothbrush....
Do you have any answers to any of the 'big questions' and would you like to pose any questions?
The big question our users ask is "what on earth do I click to get logged on"....
What would you like the delegates to be thinking about?
How best to position my institution to take advantage of all the cool things FAM will start to open up over the next couple of years or so.
What should we order you from the bar?
I guess its too much to expect them to have FelinFoel? (I'm always unsure what I'll get when I ask for "a pint of Brains") |

Tell me a little bit about yourself...
I was born and raised in Aberdeenshire and have now settled in Newcastle. I’ve spent the last 5 years looking and Single sign on and federated identity, which has been more fun than it sounds.
What will you bring to #FAM09?
A pragmatic view of the requirements and value of federated identity management. An enthusiasm for the value of collaboration.
Do you have any answers to any of the 'big questions' and would you like to pose any questions?
“levels of assurance who needs them” – All institutes need and use levels of assurance, we just don’t formalise it. Most systems decide what someone can do based on how much we trust them. We just leave that decision to the judgement of the system owner as to who gets mapped to what system role. In a federated world you need to be able to make that judgement without personal knowledge of the user.
Unique identifiers – We should have them and I should be given control of their issue. Given how much people are prepared to spend on personalising identifiers with vanity car number plates and phone numbers, it should enable me to retire by the time I’m 40. Can i get a starting bid on the academic identifier G3N1US?
What would you like the delegates to be thinking about?
I’d like delegates to be thinking about how federated identity isn’t really much different from campus identity. The prerequisites to enabling and using one are similar to the other.
What should we order you from the bar?
Do they do food? I’m craving cake and custard. |

Tell me a little bit about yourself....
I joined JISC in February as an e-Research Programme Manager and I am responsible for the Access and Identity Management Programme. Well you asked for a little!
What will you bring to #FAM09?
My rucksack – I travel light. Everything I need will be in there. And a waterproof coat as it is Wales.
Do you have any answers to any of the 'big questions' and would you like to pose any questions?
Does this mean there will be a Mitchell & Webb Big Talk panel discussion to answer the “big questions”? How about – 1) How will the Federation accommodate user centric IDs? and 2) Why is Britain so hung up about ID cards?
What would you like the delegates to be thinking about?
I want to hear from delegates, who are attending my session, what they feel are the emergent issues and technologies within Access & Identity Management that the AIM programme should be investigating/funding. My session will describe the programme, the recent 08/09 call and will give delegates the opportunity to discuss what should be included in a future call.
What should we order you from the bar?
The perfect pint.

Tell me a little bit about yourself...
Have been working with Identity Management a couple of years. Trying to do my best to clean up the mess, and at the same time introduce new mess, like solving more complex use cases, more protocols, more privacy, etc. I'm leading the Identity Federation task with the GÉANT programme, a task where NRENs across europe is collaborating to solve unsolved issues within IdM.
What will you bring to #FAM09?
This time I will for sure bring a display adaptor and a brand new battery for my macbookpro.
Do you have any answers to any of the 'big questions' and would you like to pose any questions?
New question: In a perfect world - do you see Identity Management?
What would you like the delegates to be thinking about?
Think about making life easier for your users. And if you accidently happen to think about OAuth, Virtual Organizations, SAML profiling, Single Logout, Identity Provider Discovery and Usability, Metadata distribution, SAML 2.0, Automated SAML 2.0 Interoperability testing, Self-register IdPs, SAML registry systems, OpenID or Dynamic SAML, feel free to discuss these subjects to me during FAM09 over a cup of coffee or beer.
