On the Way Home ...
... is my 'journal' of
life as a drive-away driver. From May 2003 through April 2005 and I did almost
weekly write-ups from those trips are posted on these pages.
I am still on
the road but am no longer taking the time to write updates, other projects are
taking priority. That doesn't mean that this work has gotten any less
exciting.
2/13/07 - I've added to more provinces to my list, I went
through NB to make my delivery in Halifax, NS. This leaves only VT that I
haven't been too, of the place's I might actually go. October and November last
year I was in Canada every week for eight weeks. And have been to all the
border provinces in the last six weeks except PQ, which I could be leaving for
today if I wanted, but turned down the run to spend time with family.
7/8/06
- Long time no updates. I have now added a page with my pay for my longer trips
in 2006
The first thing I found is that I am not keeping very good records,
I'm missing a lot of receipts for cabs, planes and trains.
I also found that
I am making better money than I was in prior years, for the first time in three
plus years I have had trips that have paid over $200 a day, but there are still
the trips that pay $30 a day.
1/6/07 - Still driving ... Still haven't
been everywhere. Am down to only VT as a state I haven't been too. Added a few
trips to Canada in '06 ... maybe a few new places in '07. In '03 and /04 I also
had other income that only allowed me to be on the road part time. In '05 I was
off the road due to family. In '06 I started back full time with this being our
only family income ... it can be done.

Here is a link that has nothing to do with
'drive-away' but I found after dealing with mass transit in Baltimore ... it
sounds very good to me.

I'VE BEEN
EVERYWHERE
Written by Geoff Mack |
I was totin' my pack
Along the dusty
Winnemucca road
When along came a semi
With a high and canvas
covered load
If you're going to Winnemucca, Mack
With me you can ride
So I climbed into the cab
And then I settled down inside
He asked
me if I'd seen a road
With so much dust and sand
And I said,
Listen, Bud I've traveled every road in this here land
(Chorus)
I've been everywhere, man
I've been everywhere, man
'Cross the
deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel, I've
had my share, man
I've been everywhere
Been to Reno,
Chicago, Fargo, Minnesota, Buffalo, Toronto,
Winslow, Sarasota, Wichita, Tulsa, Ottawa,
Oklahoma, Tampa, Panama, Mattawa, La Paloma, Bangor,
Baltimore, Salvador, Amarillo, Tocopilla, Barranquilla, and
Padilla, I'm a killer
(Repeat Chorus)
Boston,
Charleston, Dayton, Louisiana, Washington,
Houston, Kingston, Texarkana, Monterey, Ferriday, Santa
Fe, Tallapoosa, Glen Rock, Black Rock, Little Rock,
Oskaloosa, Tennessee, Hennessey, Chicopee, Spirit Lake, Grand
Lake, Devil's Lake, Crater Lake, for Pete's sake

Of travel, I've had my share, man
I know some place you
haven't been
I've been everywhere |
