KDSU 91.9 MHz FM - North Dakota State University

"Broadcasting high atop the Memorial Union at North Dakota State University, this is KDSU Fargo at 91.9 on the FM dial." I worked part time as an announcer/ operator at KDSU from 1975 to 1980.

I started with a salary of $1.50 /hour and ended my career at KDSU making about $2.50/ hour. I had fun along the way including lugging  recording gear to Concordia College in Moorhead to record concerts and then producing programs. This was one of the best jobs I ever had but alas the least paying one.

Next pictures are NDSU staff photos from 1977 and 1979. I am 2nd from the left in the middle photo.

My best story comes from starting a Saturday morning easy listening music program  after reading 5 minutes of news & weather. After coming in to work I ripped some news copy from the Mod 15 teletype, read it over and sat down at studio control board. I then relieved Vern Meiniger who had a record cued up for me. I read the news and weather and hit the button to start the cued record. To my surprise, Vern had cued up The Beatles Birthday. Ten seconds later John Tilton, KDSU Program Director, called, chewed me out for about 10 minutes and reminded me this was a easy listening program not a rock and roll show.
