Once you have a Dry recording on a track you can apply any effect you want to it. But should you want to move the insert effect unit to another position, the channel will only play dry again. Bounce the effected track to a new vTake, preserving the effect but also saving the raw sound for use later if required.
I'll assume the dry recording is on vTake '1' (This is the default vTake)
Adjust the bounce settings We need to record on the same Track but use a new vTake. Set this up in the System:Bounce Menu.
- Press [SYSTEM/UTILITY]
- Cursor right until "SYSTEM BOUNCE" is on screen and press [ENTER]
- Cursor right until "BOUNCE RECTRACK" is on screen and press [ENTER]. You now have 2 options:
- "MUTE" is the default and will prevent the source track being heard whilst recording to a different vTake.
- "PLAY" will allow the destination track to play at the same time as record. Effectively recording it's self again but with the addition of any Channel processors and Inserted effects.
- Turn the dial to display "PLAY"
- Hit [EXIT] to go back to the "BOUNCE" menu.
- Cursor Left until "BOUNCE RECTAKE" is on screen and press [ENTER]. You now have more options.
- "CURRENT" is the default setting and tells us that a bounce will overwrite anything that is on the Current vTake of the destination track. Using this option will overwrite the dry recording.
- "1" - "10". These are the available vTakes. Selecting one of these (As long as it is not the vTake currently in use) will insure we preserve the dry recording.
- We want to keep the dry recording for later so select vTake "2"
- Hit [EXIT] a bunch of time until you are back to the main screen.
Bounce in the effect.
- Get the effect sounding how you want it. Do this while playing all the other tracks (if present). Remember, an effect that sounds great on it's own, might sound terrible in the mix and vice versa. (That is why we are saving the Dry recording!)
- Mute everything except the Track you want to Bounce.
- Press the [BOUNCE] button so it lights red
- Press [ZERO] then [REC] the [PLAY]
- Wait for the song to finish the press [STOP]
- Press the [BOUNCE] so it unlights.
You now have 2 recording on 2 different vTakes on the same track. You can now move the Insert Effect location without losing the effect on this track or you can select the dry recording and try out another insert effect. You can even add an additional insert effect on top of the one you have just recorded.
