Standard Grade - Physical Education
This is a two year course completed during S3 and S4 leading to certification at Credit (Levels 1 and 2), General (Levels 3 and 4) or Foundation (Levels 5 and 6). Aims of the Course: 1. To improve physical performance by developing abilities and by practising and refining techniques. 2. To know and understand the principles involved by participating in a range of practical activities, individually and with others, in ways which make various demands on the performer. 3. To identify and distinguish different abilities by evaluating ones own performance and those of others. 4. To enhance personal and social development by sharing ideas, communicating decisions and coming to terms with responses to various types of challenges. Structure of the Course: The course is made up of six components: Gymnastics, Aquatics, Badminton, Basketball, Fitness, Hockey or Football. Fitness will be the Thematic Study identifying common links across the course.
Requirements for Entry: To be allowed to enter the Standard Grade Physical Education course there are two requirements. Firstly the pupil must be able to swim 25m unsupported front stroke, back stroke and breast stroke, secondly a recommendation from the pupils S2 Physical Education teacher is required.
Homework: Homework will be issued at regular intervals throughout the course. It is a requirement in order to achieve a good pass. To access the homework the pupils should use studywiz, our online learning environment. This can be accessed at http://edinburgh.studywiz.com
