Higher - Physical Education
Entry Requirements Credit level in the KU and EV elements of Standard Grade Physical Education. Also Credit level at Standard Grade English. A high level of motivation and a good participation record in PE are essential. Participation in at least one extra-curricular sport is strongly recommended. Outline of the Course The course is split into two units: · Performance 40% · Analysis and Development of Performance 60% Practical Element. Three activities are studied; each of which is linked with an area of analysis · Badminton or Gymnastics with Skills and Techniques. · Basketball or Dance with Structures, Strategies and Composition. · Football or Swimming with Preparation of the Body. Methods of Learning Practical experiential learning provides the opportunity for development of performance. Theory classes and homework assignments provide consolidation of the aspects covered in the practical sessions. The Investigation Report must be completed through independent research with guidance from a designated tutor (a member of the PE Department). Homework Policy Homework will involve: 1. Assignments related to key aspects of the course. 2. Exercises based on exam questions. 3. Background reading and independent research for the investigation is expected. Forms of Assessment Each Unit must be passed internally and then moderated and/or marked by an external assessor. · Performance: Continuous assessment will require students to demonstrate effective performance in challenging contexts. The two best activities will form your practical grade. · Analysis and Development of Performance: Candidates must pass four Learning Outcomes in order to satisfy the internal assessment procedures. A formal, external exam is sat at the end of the course.
