My personal heroes have always been teachers, starting with my first grade teacher (and now dear friend), Lucy Finn, who managed to instill in me a love of school, despite some early stumbling blocks; and my second grade teacher, Mrs. Wilkinson, who helped me to see the beauty in my, at the time, uncommon first name, and the undiscovered worlds that literature offers. Graduate school presented me with a larger group of teachers that not only am I lucky to consider my colleagues and mentors, but also my friends. Is it any wonder that after some interesting employment experiences, and over twenty years of school, I have finally found my calling as an English teacher?
I think every day offers a new learning opportunity and I embrace each one (admittedly, I do find some more enjoyable than others). As a parent, I have someone available to remind me of this daily.
I have served as an adjunct faculty member of New Hampshire Community Technical College (now White Mountain Community College) and Plymouth State University, and enjoyed teaching at both institutions. I also taught for a semester at New Hampton School, an independent 9-12 college preparatory school in New Hampton, NH.
Currently I am working with the seniors at Woodsville High School, teaching English 12. This school year (08-09), I am excited to be teaching two electives: creative writing AND literally film. Next year, I'm planning on offering at least one Project Running Start course - want to find out more about it? Come see me!
Go Engineers!
