The National Meeting

Every year, the Representative Assembly of the NEA meet to make decisions affecting the whole of the organization.  Having over 9,000 delegates this is the largest decision making group in the world.  The Representative Assembly (RA) meets during four of the six days of the Annual Meeting.  The first two days are reserved for registration, exhibits, and pre-Assembly meetings.  Representatives are selected by their local NEA peers to represent them and their local issues at the annual meeting.  Though the meeting was held in D.C. in '08 that is, by no means, the usual meeting place.  In 2009 the meeting will be held in San Diego, Ca.  The delegates vote on policy for the upcoming year but they also will vote on possible changes in the NEA itself via secret ballot.  See the sidebar for a link to the official site for the 2008 Annual Meeting.
