SOCIAL JUSTICE EDUCATION ACCOMPLISHMENTS 

•    Social Justice Curriculum Initiatives   
•    Proposed college-wide course requirement in service learning (1989).
•    Formulated model for course.
•    Developed community partnerships for student placements.
•    Taught the trial courses for two semesters in preparation for other faculty adoption.
•    Proposed, administered, and led 30 faculty on 3-day workshop to integrate social justice into curriculum and established partnerships with Catholic Relief Services, Network Social Justice Lobby, and Philadelphia Interfaith Action, 2003.
•    Co-developed Social Justice minor 2003.
•    Co-chaired Faculty Development Days.
•    Led faculty in developing long-term plans for integrating social justice across the curriculum. January and May 2004.

OTHER SELECTED SERVICE 

•    College Admission and Enrollment Committee chair during 10-year period of college growth from 400 FTEs to 1,000 FTEs.
•    Served on Middle States steering committees three occasions.
•    Wrote and administered grants totaling $250,000.
•    Program evaluator: Raritan Valley Community College, Neumann College.
•    Consultant to journalism programs: Delaware County Community College, Eastern University, Neumann College.

DEPARTMENT STUDENT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

•    Co-developed, on a Pew Memorial Trust grant, a four-year career development program taken as a requirement by all department majors all four years.
•    Developed a range of activities in this program to provide guidance and professional activities for liberal arts English & Communication majors. Aspects of program include schema to aid students to analyze talents and interests and seek out appropriate careers, activities to match students with professionals in intended career fields, and analytical tools for students to develop short- and long-term career goals.
•    Lead and manage the four-year program of professional speakers, readings, advising, and analytical papers.
•    Established a speaker series of English & Communication professionals in which at least six speakers in appropriate fields meet with students each year. 

OTHER DEPARTMENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS 

•    Led department growth from 40 majors to 200+ majors.
•    Wrote and administered grants totaling $250,000. Developed department internship and co-op program used by 500 students.
•    Advised college newspaper 30+ years, winning awards from Sigma Delta Chi, the Society of Professional Journalists; the Advertising Club of Philadelphia; and All-American ratings from the Associated Collegiate Press.
•    Proposed, designed, and outfitted 4,600 sq. ft. communication center. 1980-1982.
•    Led department team in proposing, designing, and outfitting 12,000 sq. ft., $1 million communication center 1999-2000.

PROFESSIONAL PRESENTATION AND PUBLICATIONS 

•    Co-founded Delaware Valley Writing Council, a 900-member organization devoted to improving students’ writing; served as newsletter editor, 10 years.
•    Presentations at national meetings of The National Council of Teachers of English, the Conference on College Composition and Communication, and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication on the writing process, writing in journalism, and technology in mass communication education.
