Who am I?

I am finishing up my final year at Kansas State University, where I am majoring in Computer Science,  and minoring in Business.  I plan to graduate in May 2009 and continue my career as a Software Engineer.

During my time at K-State, I have been involved in many different organizations across campus.  I spent a year in Marlatt Hall, where I worked as a Resident Assistant.  Prior to that, I lived in Goodnow Hall for two years.  Aside from my classes, I do my best to keep busy:

  • I was the '07-'08 President of ACM, an on-campus chapter of a national organization designed for Computer Science and Engineering students, often teaming up with K-Slug (K-State Linux Users Group) to put on social events, such as tailgates and LAN parties.  Before that, I spent two years as vice-president, and currently filling the role of Senior Chair during my final year.

  • I was webmaster for the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society for two years, where my main duties included weekly meetings, updating the website, and maintaining the listserv.

  • After participating in Relay for Life in high school and at K-State (put on by the American Cancer Society) and being captain of the ACM team, I moved up to the planning committee, where I was Logistics Chair for the event. This year, I am the event's co-chair.
  • I spent two years as a part of Engineering Ambassadors, a group designed to teach high school students what K-State's College of Engineering has to offer, as well as forming a link between engineering students and faculty.  During my second year, I was part of the Exec Board on the IT Committee, where my main duties included updating the website and attending bi-weekly meetings.

  • I spent two years as a Freshman Mentor for incoming Computer Science students (part of the College of Engineering's New Student Orientation program).
  • I spent my junior year in Marlatt Hall working as a Resident Assistant, employees of the university hired to help residence hall students succeed at K-State.
  • During my sophomore year, I was Goodnow Hall's Technology Coordinator where my duties included webmaster, listserv manager, and any other random tech duties.
  • My sophomore year, I was also a member of Housing and Dining Ambassadors talking to high school students about the benefits of student life on-campus at K-State, before giving up the position to become an RA (as mentioned earlier).  Aside from taking part in our usual recruiting events, I also served as Tour Team Manager of Goodnow Hall.  During that time, I developed a simple scheduling program (see side bar), which is still in use today.

During the school year, I am employed off-campus working for Surface Systems & Instruments, LLC (http://www.smoothroad.com), a company that develops instruments and software to analyze the smoothness of road surfaces.  My main responsibility is working as part of a team to develop software that is used to analyze data and generate reports for the Department of Transportation, which detail the smoothness of road surfaces.

I've spent the past two summers working as an intern at Softek Solutions, Inc., a growing software company in Prairie Village, KS.  During my first summer, I developed "sensors" in C# for their flagship product, Panther, which does performance monitoring on Cerner's Millenium system.  This past summer, I worked on a new product called Illuminate, designed to index patient records for quick and easy retrieval.  My contributions were an AutoComplete GUI control to make suggestions based on words found in the index and a Scheduled Query service to execute stored procedures and email the results based on a user-defined schedule.
