In our last unit in English we learned how to use style and anlysis terms to help us understand literature. In unit 1 we focused on tone and attitude, to identify the tone of a story, you to have to find different but complimentary tones. After indentifying two adjectives you conduct it into a thesis and explain how the tones you chose express the piece of literature. when writing about detail you choose quotes that u feel captures the mood of a story and comment on them. In unit 2 we focused on diction and language. when doing this you find quotes that are metaphores or similies, then u comment on how the author uses this language. In unit 3 we focused on detail, when writing a detail analysis paragraph, you focus on literal language and find quotes that identify this. In unit 4 we focused on point of view/ perspective, which is the standpoint or the narrators judgement in relation to the story. In unit 5 we focused on organization, which is the structure of the story. You have to identify the beginning, middle and end. In unit 6 we focused on syntax, when writing a syntax analysis paper, you have to identify the sentence patterns in the story. when using this method of analysis, new horizons arise in a simple short story that you may think cannot get any deeper. There are many different elements to focus on when reading a story that you are sort of forced to analyze a piece of literature, using this method.
