Somethin' Kinda Sexy... August 2008 " The beauty in what we call 'sexiness' is our inability to define it. What so many of us find so appealing is not the unknown; rather the undefined. The existence of possibility. To me, any shape, any movement, is most beautiful in it's state of frailty, it's fleetingness and it's intangibility. And yet it does own a certain tangibility; able to be held or observed, after and before any specific moment. Those moments when you're looking at something and everything's still possible-that's exciting. To me that moment-that state- defines beauty, and, I guess, is the best explanation I have for 'sexiness'..." Somethin' Kinda Sexy is a collaboration between five diverse artists: an expression of their definitions of "sexiness" Drawing together artwork across the disciplines of photography, oil, acrylic, pastels and watercolour, these artists are exploring various facets of a concept that is assumed to be clearly defined. The true message of this exhibition is to highlight the multiplicity of a subject so often brushed over or homogenised. Falling High, 2008. Charcoal, Graphite and Oil on Canvas. |
