Deccan Plateau in India Deccan Plateau is a region south of the Vindhya Range. The plateau touches Narmada River in the north and the Nilgiri and Palni Hills in the south. It is bound by Eastern Ghats and Western Ghats. The Deccan Plateau has an undulating terrain, with elevations averaging about 600 m (about 2000 ft). However, some hills reach 1200 m (4000 ft). Many of the major rivers of the country, including the Cauvery River, Godavari River, Krishna River, and Penneru River, flow across the eastward-tilting plateau before reaching the Bay of Bengal. The Deccan Plateau has been the center of political turbulance since ancient times. |
