My objective as a teacher has always been to motivate my students to learn how to learn. This hasn’t been easy. I have encountered frustrations and obstacles, especially in my classes for native speakers, where the challenges multiply day by day. I not only have to motivate and respect the students, but must also combat the ignorance about their native language that they encounter in the society in which they now live. Teaching Spanish to students who were raised speaking Spanish, involves a series of challenges, not only for me as a teacher, but for the students themselves, because, since it is presently seen as being a politically incorrect thing to do, maintaining and enriching the language of their birth becomes a big feat. In spite of these obstacles, my objective is to motivate these students and create a cultural sensibility in them that will cause them to feel proud having and maintaining the cultural heritage that is the Spanish language.

Mi objetivo como maestro siempre ha sido el motivar a mis estudiantes para que se interesen en querer aprender a aprender. Realmente no ha sido fácil, pues me he encontrado con múltiples obstáculos que en muchas de las ocasiones me han llenado de frustración, especialmente en mis clases para nativo hablantes donde los retos se multiplican día a día. Pues no solamente tengo que motivar a los estudiantes, sino que además tengo que combatir la ignorancia del mundo que los rodea en cuanto a su idioma natal. Enseñar el idioma español a nativo hablantes implica una serie de retos no solo para mí como docente, sino para los estudiantes, ya que en la sociedad en que vivimos, mantener y cultivar el idioma natal resulta ser toda una proeza, dado el momento histórico en que se vive; pareciera políticamente incorrecto. Aun con estos obstáculos mi objetivo para con los estudiantes es motivarlos y crear la sensibilidad cultural que les haga sentirse orgullosos de tener y mantener una herencia cultural como lo es el idioma español.
