            The Swingin' Holidays! - June/July

The JazzSoc Exec wishes all of you poor people who still have exams good luck, and those of you who have finished a fantastic start to the mid-year break!

For those of you who haven't yet realised, Sunset Jazz won't be running until the first week of Semester Two; contrary to popular belief, musicians occasionally take breaks...

However, we are still giving away free tickets to The Basement and The Vanguard as usual. Your JazzSoc membership lasts the whole year: we're here to help you enjoy your holidays as well as semester!

In other news...

Darling Harbour: Some of you may have braved the rain during the weekend of June 20 and 21 to see a number of Jazz Society's combos play at a very drenched Darling Harbour... Unfortunately, both performances had to be postponed due to wet weather. Rest assured, we'll be playing soon and we'll keep you posted!

Big Band
:
Jazz Society's very own Big Band competed in the McDonald's Performing Arts Challenge on the evening of June 12 during stuvac, and came 2nd place! We lost out to the Turtle Search Big Band, a band made up for much older and more experienced players, so this is a very fine result, well done!

In the swing of things... May/June 2009
End of Semester Party! (5-8pm, 3rd June at Hermann's Bar) To conclude the semester JazzSoc is teaming up with the USyd cocktail society, Movers & Shakers, to bring you...
FREE cocktails and LIVE jazz!
Swinging JazzSoc Big Band starts at 5pm sharp! BBQ also included, free for all Access Card holders.
$0 for members, $2 for Access Card holders, $4 for non-Access.

Italian Sunset Jazz: The night went off with a staccato'd bang! Over 150 people attended this fantastic one-off event, where the Richard Savery Combo and our own Sydney University Big Band had the audience up and dancing with a swingin' display of talent and the pizza provided by the Italian Society was devoured with gusto!
