Software for young children should:

• encourage exploration, imagination, and problem solving
• refelct and build upon what students already know
• be open-ended
• allow the child to control the pace and direction
• support the curriculum

Software for young children should NOT:

• overwhelm the senses
• be similar to dittos or "drill and practice" activities
• be "edutainment"
• focus on skills beyond the ability of the children using the program
