TOT-LOT - NOTE IMPORTANT 2012 NEWS

PLEASE NOTE: We can provide this service for the children of adults attending as camp chaperones/leaders if and only if we have at least one adult per day commit IN ADVANCE to be the Tot-Lot Advisor (TLA). A teenage Girl Scout working on her Silver Award will be planning and running the activities for Tot-Lot participants. The TLA's duties will include maintaining a safe environment for all present in Shel-to-wee, notifying camp staff if the building requires maintenance service, making certain that no unauthorized person--including Scouts and Pack leaders as well as camp visitors--enters Shel-to-wee while Tot-Lot is in operation (exception: Shel-to-wee is a designated shelter during severe storms), assisting with the Staff/JrStaff meal preparation before lunch and clean-up afterward (can go with Pack during lunch), and being the emergency contact person for Shel-to-wee during camp hours.

General Information

All children in Tot-Lot must have a completed medical form turned in to the Camp Director before entering the Tot-Lot. Children must be signed in on the Tot-Lot each day.

Tot-Lot is a convenience for adult volunteers and staff whose children are not Cub Scouts (boy or girl) and need a place to stay while the parent volunteers at Cub Scout Day Camp. The children must be potty trained and be two years of age or older. The parent/guardian must be present in camp for the child to be in the Tot-Lot. It is not a general day care service.

Tot-Lot staff plans activities for the children. Activities may include crafts, story time, nature activities and quiet time geared toward the younger child. It is staffed by
teenaged Jr Staff. An adult must be present (see note above!)
Water activities will be made available to the children as needed in hot weather. The swimming pool and fountain splash area will only be available for them to use, see below, if the parent chooses to take them along while the Pack is at their swimming rotation.
Please pack proper clothing/towel/sunscreen and label all belongings. Send only sturdy closed-toe shoes as the paths are rocky and uneven.

Snacks

Snacks are provided. Please inform staff member(s) if there are any special dietary concerns or allergies.

Lunch
Children must be picked up from Tot-Lot by their parent/guardian for the entire duration of the lunch hour.  The children will eat lunch and spend quiet time with their parents while the staff gets a break and Shel-to-wee is used as the staff lunchroom.  Children should not be returned to Tot-Lot until the horn sounds at the end of lunch time. Exception: on the days when there is a campfire or other lunchtime program, the children will remain with their parents until after the program is over.
Parents are responsible for providing lunch for their child/ren. Please pack food items and drinks. Refrigeration is not available so pack accordingly.  Make sure that lunch bags are clearly marked with the child's name.

All children must be picked-up before the closing ceremony at the end of the day.

COST
The cost is $5.00 per child per day in Tot-Lot*.  Please pay in the morning. Exact change is preferred.
Children of staff are free.

POOL
If you choose to take child/ren from Tot-Lot to the pool with the Pack during their rotation (except Monday, due to swim tests), there is an additional cost for the use of the pool/sprinklers of $3.00 a day. A pool pass is purchased at the Camp Trading Post in Seneca Lodge. *Please note that we have no control over this. While the pool is Council-operated, it is open to the public and a fee is required for entry. We pay the Cub Scout pool fees out of the Day Camp budget.

*10 to 13 years old children who are willing and able to be "helpers" and assist with supervising the younger children at Tot-Lot do not need to pay the $5 a day Tot Lot fee to be there, but they will need to buy a pool pass ($3) if they wish to use the pool with the parent and the Pack.
