The Sword in the Stone

Laurel Highlands Council Community Day Camps 2012

Are your Cub Scouts and Webelos ready to begin the long road to Knighthood?  If so, our 2012 Community Day Camps are the place to be this summer.  Come on out and learn the skills of Medieval pages and squires while hanging out and having a blast with other Cub Scouts and Webelos.

Look for more information at your upcoming District Roundtables and at your Pack’s summer camp promotion at a Spring Pack Meeting.  Registration is open and available for Packs online through www.lhc-bsa.org

If you need additional information, e-mail any of the Camp Directors (addresses in left margin), or the Council Day Camp Committee at 2012lhccubdaycamp@googlegroups.com

Day Camp "Double Knot" registrations are online again this year.

A Day Camp information card was to be mailed by the Laurel Highlands Council to registered Cub Scout families detailing all community day camp dates and fees, as detailed online.

Since we are now exclusively using the on-line system for registration,  paper registration forms will not be mailed to Cub Scout Units. For your convenience, we have created a form that you can print out to use at your Pack meetings to gather the information needed to complete the on-line registration. Please print out this form to get all of the information needed to complete the online registration process. The registration is not complete or saved in the system until the submission is made on the final payment page (even if payments are being made offline). Please read the rest of this page before starting the registration process as it includes helpful directions. The form (UnitSignUpSheet2012.xls) is an attachment at the bottom of this page. It is an Excel spreadsheet so it can be used on a computer or as a printed paper copy. Please do not use last year's UnitSignUpSheet since there are changes in the deadlines and fees. This form is just a tool for your convenience and  not the actual registration form!

To access the Laurel Highlands Council online registrations for camp, click on the appropriate activity link found on the LHC-BSA Day Camp page or on the GPC Calendar or follow this direct link to register:

    * Link to DoubleKnot registration site for all 5-day camps, including June 25-29 at Camp Guyasuta

To use the online system to enter Scout registrations, each Pack's Day Camp Coordinator will first need to log-on to Double Knot via one of the links above. The first step will be to create a user ID, if that unit has not previously created one. Take note of the user ID and password since that information will be necessary to log-in again to register additional Scouts or update details on the unit's registration.

Important note: initial entries, additions or changes made in each online session will not be complete or saved until all registration steps are finished in that log-on session. The session is complete once submitted through the final screen that handles payment. Note this final step must be completed each time, even if no payment is due, otherwise the changes will not be saved.  If fees are owed and the unit is not paying online, choose the offline (mail) payment option.

Please have the Pack's designated Day Camp Coordinator register all unit Scouts. This is preferred over parents registering their boys separately through the "Double Knot" system so that camp registrations can be linked in one Unit entry. Only key adults in your Pack should have access to the Unit's User ID and Password.

Fee Schedule:
The basic Day Camp registration fee is $75 for the 5-day session.
           • Exception: Tiger Cubs (new, rising first graders) always pay early bird fee, regardless of date registered
There is a $10 discount for registrations received by May 1st. ($65)
There is a $10 late fee for all registrations received after June 1st. ($85)
There is no charge for adults attending camp. (If an adult wants to order a camp t-shirt, the cost is $12.50. That adult will need to be registered for camp to order the t-shirt.)

A convenience charge for online payment in addition to these fees was
assessed in 2010. We assume at this point that will remain the same for the 2012 camp season. Please note these past instructions from DoubleKnot:

         Preferred Payment

To avoid convenience fees, please consider mailing or dropping off your payment directly to Flag Plaza. You can avoid convenience fees if you mail or drop off your payment check to Flag Plaza.  Please include Acct. 1-6801-912-20 on the subject line of the check.

Important note regarding total due displayed on confirmation and payment page of the online registration system. At this time, the default setting is "credit card payment." Because of that, the amount of the convenience fee is calculated and shown as included in the "Total Due" amount. However, that fee is only due if payment is made by credit card. If EFT or pay by mail/offline are chosen, the convenience fee is NOT due, however it is still displayed. The correct Total shown in the payment window will be reflected in the lower section which indicates how much and to whom the payment will be made.

What if I can't register online through the
Double Knot system?
Having a Unit representative enter the Scouts' information will streamline the registration process and reduce errors and redundancies.
Should your Unit require use of a traditional paper registration rather than the online system,

please contact the Day Camp Director. Note, these registrations will still be entered in the same system,
simply by a Council staff member rather than a member of the unit. It is very important that all entries are written

clearly and accurately, including
t-shirt sizes for all Scouts, choosing only from the sizes offered.

Any documents turned in to LHC at Flag Plaza should be labeled with the camp dates and location and your Pack number. It would also be helpful to include the unit's home district with the documents. All checks should include Acct 1-6801-912-20 on the memo line.

Medical forms can be turned in at Laurel Highlands Council headquarters or to the Day Camp Director directly at any Japeechen District Roundtable Meeting, the first Wednesday of each month:
  • March 7th @ 7:00 PM, O'Hara Elementary School
  • April 4th @ 7:00 PM, O'Hara Elementary School
  • May 2nd @ 7:00 PM, O'Hara Elementary School
  • June 6th @ the either the 6:00 PM or the 8:15 PM Mandatory Day Camp meetings (choose one), Fireman's Memorial Park, Aspinwall
(Directions: From Freeport road take Center Avenue to top of hill, turn left on River Oaks Dr. Proceed to park entrance on left. Overflow parking available at apartment complex, Oakhurst Circle. Map link)
