Biography

Janet Forbes is a performing musician with broad interests and a specialism in Historical Performance Practice (Early Music).  She started her training at Chetham's School of Music, where she studied with Alan Davis and Diana Palmerston. She enjoyed numerous competition successes, including Rotary Young Musician of the Year (overall winner) as well as first prizes in both Peterborough Festival of Performing Arts and Richmond Festivals of Arts.
Since 2006, Janet has been a student of the world-renowned Royal Conservatory, The Hague, where she studies recorder with Reine-Marie Verhagen and Dorothea Winter, and voice with Rita Dams. She has performed solo concertos, recitals and chamber music in venues across the UK and the Netherlands, and is a founding member of both La Dichosa Fantasia and Accademia dell'Arcadia, which focus on 17th and 18th century music respectively. She has also guested with The Scroll Ensemble, an early music and improvisation ensemble.
Janet has a passion for both early and contemporary music; she frequently lectures about her research, and was invited to speak and perform at the conference De-Placing Future Memory at Exeter University in 2009. She enjoys collaborating with professional and student composers, and in the past year has had four new works written for her. Janet is passionate about teaching, and offers lessons to pupils of all ages and stages, and also to groups.
