Dear Students/Parents/Guardians: Welcome to 8th grade Geometry. This is an advanced math class and we will move quickly with daily notes and assignments. Students should come prepared and ready to work. This can be a fun and challenging course! Geometry classwork and homework assignments will be given in class daily and will also appear on this website daily. If a student is absent, it is recommended they check the website and try to keep up with the class from home. Assignments will be graded on completeness. All assignments should be completed in pencil and be neat and legible. The assignments should be labeled properly with all work shown. Answers should be boxed and correction marks made in pen. Incomplete assignments will receive a zero in the grade book. Assessments will include chapter tests and quizzes, as well as projects. Quizzes may be given weekly and tests will be given at the end of every chapter. There are also cumulative semester assessments and a final cumulative assessment. I can be reached by phone or email if you have any questions. If a student needs help with assignments, I will be available after school by appointment. The textbook website is also a great resource. Students who earn a 73% or below will be required to retake the course next Fall. Students who fall below 73% on any assessment should seek assistance outside of class. The following supplies are necessary for Geometry. They should be brought to class EVERY day. SCAB 4 dividers in your binder (Warm Ups, Notes, Assignments, Assessments) Lined and graph paper Pencils with eraser Pens Glue Stick Ruler Protractor Compass Colored pencils, pens or crayons Scissors Scientific Calculator is optional but especially useful for 2nd semester. All students are expected to follow the classroom conduct rules. These can be found in the JAMS SCAB book. Consequences will apply when necessary. I appreciate your help in supporting these rules. A student’s citizenship grade will reflect his or her behavior in class. Grades are given according to the following percent distribution: Assignments 20% Assessments 80% The 8th grade Grade Scale is as follows: A 93-100% A- 90-92% B+ 87-89% B 83-86% B- 80-82% C+ 77-79% C 73-76% C- 70-72% D+ 66-69% D 60-65% D- 55-59% F 54% and below Thank you!
