Where can I find the math textbook online? What is the account name and password for accessing the math textbook online? Where can I find tonight's math homework? Math 7HP homework is listed here. Geometry homework is listed here. All assignments are also posted in class. How can I raise my grade? Improve homework quiz scores by completing ALL homework assignments on time, including all needed work for each problem (question, working steps, correct solution), correcting and reviewing your errors on the homework, and neatly keeping all homework assignments in your binder. Where can I go for extra math help/tutoring?Improve quiz scores by studying for each quiz and doing quiz corrections. Quiz corrections are due one week after the graded quiz has been returned to students. Using the Quiz Correction form provided by the teacher, students can earn back up to half of their missed points. The Quiz Correction form is found here. Extra credit opportunities are given only twice per year. Both are extra credit packets, distributed the day before Winter Break and Spring Break. Each packet is worth up to 25 points (if all problems are solved correctly, showing all working steps). From Ms. Jung: I am available for homework assistance after school by appointment. JAMS Library: Monday through Thursday from 3-4:15pm. Boys and Girls Club: Before and after school every day (check with them for hours). Saturday Scholars: Every Saturday in the JAMS Library from 8am-12noon. Online: Tutorials and problem step-by-step help are found on the online textbook website. The web address is http://my.hrw.com (the username is jadams1234 and the password is jams). Check your understanding of a lesson: Under "Additional
Practice" tab for the chapter, click on the lesson button to show a
drop-down menu for the lesson. Then select "Lesson Resources," followed
by "Interactive Practice Quiz" (5-10 questions for each lesson). At the
end of a chapter, you can take the "Interactive Practice Test" (about 20
questions for the whole chapter.) To access the homework help pages: http://go.hrw.com (Scroll to bottom left of page; use the GO keyword from the textbook page you are working on) Math quizzes are given every other late-start Friday. Each quiz is worth 100 points. The quizzes are cumulative, meaning they cover all old material learned up to that day AND new material learned that week. To best prepare for a quiz, study your old Warm Up problems because they look just like quiz problems. Also study your old quizzes because many of the same topics/skills repeatedly show up on every quiz. Finally, many homework problems show up on the math quizzes, so make sure that you understand each homework assignment fully and ask questions when you need extra support. What are Warm Ups? Every block day, students start the class by completing five "warm up" math problems. These problems are designed to provide students with an opportunity to practice and work towards mastery of critical skills necessary for success in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and/or Geometry. Students may work on the problems individually, or work collaboratively with their group members. As students work, the teacher circulates through the room and works individually with students to ensure all students are learning. Warm Ups are collected every other week on Quiz days. Students are strongly encouraged to study their Warm Up problems nightly, as they closely resemble problems found of the math quizzes. What are Homework Quizzes? Every Monday/Tuesday, students take a Homework Quiz to check for homework completion and understanding. A homework quiz consists of four randomly selected problems from the previous week's two homework problems. Students are given 10 minutes to complete the homework quiz, sufficient time to copy their solutions (working steps and answer) of the four indicated problems from the previous week's two assignments. Homework quizzes are closed-book. Each student earns a grade weekly for homework based on the homework quiz and turned in assignments. What are Quiz Corrections? Students are encouraged to do Quiz Corrections to raise their quiz scores. Quiz corrections are due one week after the graded quiz has been
returned to students. By doing Quiz Corrections, students can earn back up to half of their missed points. Students must use the
Quiz Correction form, which is found here. To earn maximum points back, students must clearly explain their error (using complete sentences), clearly explain how they corrected their work (in complete sentences), and provide a correct solution showing all working steps. All Quiz Corrections must be turned in WITH the corresponding quiz (stapled). What supplies do I need for class each day?
When do we get new seats in class? New seats are assigned at the start of each month. The teacher reserves the right to change a student's seat if needed. Do I need to keep all of my old math work? Students will need to keep their old math work (warm ups, classwork, homework, assessments) in their binder. Work needs to be kept in chronological order and located in the corresponding section of their binder (i.e., warm ups in the Warm Up section, etc). Students need their old math work to adequately study for the math quizzes. Quiz problems closely resemble what students have worked on in their warm ups. Problems from homework assignments frequently appear on quizzes. Classwork assignments expose students to the most critical topics that they must master for success on their math quizzes. Finally, problems from old assessments often reappear on quizzes until students reach mastery, making old assessments a valuable resource to prepare for future math quizzes. How do I find out what happened in class when I was absent? If absent, students can find out what lesson, warm up, classwork, and homework assignment they missed that day by simply checking on Ms. Jung's website. The teacher has scanned and uploaded all warm up problems, classwork worksheets and homework assignments to the website. Students can then download and print these documents from home.
