How can I raise my grade?
Improve homework quiz scores by completing ALL homework assignments on time, including all needed work for each problem (question, working steps, correct solution), correcting and reviewing your errors on the homework, and neatly keeping all homework assignments in your binder.

Improve quiz scores by studying for each quiz and doing quiz corrections.  Quiz corrections are due one week after the graded quiz has been returned to students.  Using the Quiz Correction form provided by the teacher, students can earn back up to half of their missed points.  The Quiz Correction form is found here.

Extra credit opportunities are given only twice per year.  Both are extra credit packets, distributed the day before Winter Break and Spring Break.  Each packet is worth up to 25 points (if all problems are solved correctly, showing all working steps).

Where can I go for extra math help/tutoring?
Click on the link "Homework Help" in the Navigation sidebar to the left of this screen.

How should I study for the math quiz?
Math quizzes are given frequently (every 10 days to 2 weeks).  The quizzes are cumulative, meaning they cover all old material learned up to that day AND new material learned that week.  To best prepare for a quiz, study your old Bell Work problems because they look just like quiz problems.  Also study your old quizzes because many of the same topics/skills show up repeatedly on every quiz.  Finally, many homework problems show up on the math quizzes, so make sure that you understand each homework assignment fully and ask questions when you need extra support.

What is Bell Work?
Every block day, students start the class when the bell rings by completing four to five "warm up" math problems.  These problems are designed to provide students with an opportunity to practice and work towards mastery of critical skills necessary for success in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and/or Geometry.  Students may work on the problems individually, or work collaboratively with their group members.  As students work, the teacher circulates through the room and works individually with students to ensure all students are learning.  Bell Work is collected and evaluated frequently.  Students are strongly encouraged to study their Bell Work problems nightly, as they closely resemble problems found on the math quizzes.

What are Quiz Corrections?
Students are encouraged to do Quiz Corrections to raise their quiz scores.  Quiz corrections are due one week after the graded quiz has been returned to students.  By doing Quiz Corrections, students can earn back up to half of their missed points.  Students must use the Quiz Correction form, which is found here.  To earn maximum points back, students must clearly explain their error (using complete sentences), clearly explain how they corrected their work (in complete sentences), and provide a correct solution showing all working steps.  All Quiz Corrections must be turned in WITH the corresponding quiz (stapled).

What supplies do I need for class each day?
Click on the link "Daily Supplies List" in the Navigation sidebar to the left of this screen.

When do we get new seats in class?
New seats are assigned at the start of each unit.  The teacher reserves the right to change a student's seat if needed.

Do I need to keep all of my old math work?
Students will need to keep their old math work (bell work, classwork, homework, assessments) in their binder.  Work needs to be kept in chronological order and located in the corresponding section of their binder (i.e., Bell Work in the Bell Work section, etc).
Students need their old math work to adequately study for the math quizzes.  Quiz problems closely resemble what students have worked on in their Bell Work.  In addition, problems from homework assignments frequently appear on quizzes.  Classwork assignments expose students to the most critical topics that they must master for success on their math quizzes.  Finally, problems from prior assessments often reappear on quizzes until students reach mastery, making prior assessments a valuable resource to prepare for future math quizzes.

How do I find out what happened in class when I was absent?
If absent, students can check Ms. Bon's website to see what the assignments were for the day. Students are also encouraged to come by the classroom on the day they return (even if they don't have math that day!) in order to pick up any handouts or worksheets in addition to the assignment in order to keep up with the class. Students are also strongly encouraged to obtain the the phone numbers of a few friends in class to check in with them.

Do you ever give extra credit assignments?
Extra Credit opportunities are provided only twice per year, during Winter Break and Spring Break.  On the last day of class before school is closed for Winter and Spring Break, students will be given extra credit packets (Winter Break EC Packet and Spring Break EC Packet).  The completion of these packets is optional.  They are due on the first day classes resume after Winter Break and Spring Break.  Each packet is worth up to 25 points.  Credit will only be given for problems that clearly show all working steps and correct answers.
