Course Objective: This class is designed to teach and identify the characteristics and critical elements of a skilled performance in dance activities and demonstrate them. Students will participate in dance activities that improve or maintain personal levels of health-related physical fitness. Students will demonstrate independent learning of movement skills in dance activities. Absences: -The student is NOT allowed to miss no more than 10 class sessions. If this occurs, the student will receive a NO CREDIT for that class and will have to retake the course. -The student IS allowed to make-up excused absences only in Saturday school (This is for the 10-day absent policy). -If a student is absent from class there will be a DEDUCTION of 5 points from the student’s grade. -It is the STUDENTS RESPONSIBILITY to attend make-up sessions to earn their 5 points back upon an excused absence. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE GOING TO SATURDAY SCHOOL! Tardies: -Each student MUST to arrive on time to class (see tardy policy). -Class begins 5 minutes after the bell rings, giving 5-minutes to dress out. -Dance fitness will meet in the dance room. -Students arriving late will be marked tardy (see tardy policy). Medical Notes: A written note from a parent or guardian is required to excuse or modify student’s participation in class due to a current medical condition. A note from a doctor with specific limitations is required for any student that is not able to participate for 3 or more days (get paper from teacher to submit to doctor). ANY TIME that a student is not able to participate in class activities is still required to dress for class. A student with more than 15 continuous school day medical absences will automatically be dropped from their ENS classes. Clothing: PROPER ATTIRE IS REQUIRED FOR THE DANCE FITNESS COURSE. THE FOLLOWING WILL GIVE YOU A VERY SPECIFIC LIST OF DO’S AND DON’TS: DO’S: SCHOOL COLORS! -Tanks that are 2” or wider -T-shirts that are plain and school colors -Fitness shorts or pants -Athletic shoes/tennis shoes -Sports bra. This is essential because you will be moving and sweating. DON’T’S: -Spaghetti straps -Short shorts/boxers -Bra straps revealed -Flip-flops or sandals of ANY type/UGG boots-NEVER! -Regular school clothes. This means ABSOLUTELY NO TANKS OR SHIRTS THAT YOU WORE TO SCHOOL. Non-Suits: -There should never be an issue with not dressing to exercise. This is free exercise and an investment in your overall health and well-being. IF YOU ARE NOT FEELING WELL, YOU MUST DRESS AND I WILL MODIFY YOUR ACTIVITY FOR THE DAY. IF THERE IS NO WAY YOU FEEL YOU CAN PARTICIPATE THAN COME SEE ME AND WE WILL WORK SOMETHING OUT AND YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE-UP THE TIME DURING MAKE-UP DAYS. -Non-Suits will receive no credit for that day. -A student can only make up three non-suits per semester. -3 non-suits in a semester will automatically receive a "C" in the class. -6 non-suits in a semester will automatically receive an "F" in the class. Loaners: -Loaners are available on a daily basis free of charge. -Students will see Mrs. Gwyn to obtain loaner clothes. You must have your I.D. Card. NO I.D. No LOANERS!!!! -If the loaners clothes are not returned the student will be fined $20.00. Locker Room/Lockers: -There is no food, drink or gum allowed in any ENS facility. Water in a clear bottle is encouraged. -Each student will be assigned a locker. All items should be labeled and secured in their OWN (Assigned) locker at all times with lock that is provided. Lost locks will result in a $10.00 charge. -If all of your stuff does not fit in your locker, we suggest to place it in the women’s office or the ENS attendants room. -To promote students’ privacy, cell phones will need to be put away in their locker at all times. -Cell phones are not allowed in any ENS class. -Students are not allowed to be in the hallway at any time. Student’s are to use the side doors labeled Boys/Girls Locker Room to enter and exit. Students in the hallway will be given a referral. WEST HILLS IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST OR STOLEN ITEMS. Grading: Participation 70% Cardio 15% Dance Assessments 15% -I DO NOT GIVE GRADES, STUDENTS EARN THEIR GRADES!!!!! Communication: Communication between parents, teachers, and students is vital.
