Black Belts

 
Master Lewis James Jr. is a 4th degree black belt and the Head Instructor for James Taekwondo. Mr. James has been a student of Taekwondo since 1989. Mr. James has trained under Master Lance Farrell of Farrell’s U.S. Martial Arts. He achieved his first level of black belt in April of 1992. Mr. James achieved the 3rd dan/degree level (Jr. Master) in April of 1997. Mr. James was an instructor and student at Farrell’s through 1994.

In September of 1994, Mr. James established a Taekwondo program at the John R. Grubb Community YMCA. Mr. James was the head instructor of this program from 1994 to 1999. In 1999, Mr. James joined the Riverfront YMCA Taekwondo program as an assistant to Master Udell Cason. In December of 2000, Mr. James joined the Taekwondo program at the South Suburban YMCA as a student and assistant instructor to Master John Beals. Upon Master Beals’ retirement in June of 2002, Mr. James assumed the head instructor role of this program. Mr. James achieved the level of 4th dan/degree Black Belt in July of 2007.

Mr. James has been an active participant in Taekwondo on a statewide level. He is a member of the State of Iowa Black Belt Association. He has been active in judging various testings locally and at Iowa State University. He has coached students and participated as a referee at various Taekwondo tournaments. Mr. James has conducted several demonstrations and self-defense seminars.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Mr. Kirk Green is a 1st degree black belt (Decided) and Assistant Instructor to Master James. Mr. Green first became involved in Taekwondo in 1983 with Master Eric Heintz. He attended the Eric Heintz Black Belt Academy until December of 1986 and achieved the rank of brown belt. Mr. Green became involved with Taekwondo again in 1998 and joined Beals' Taekwondo at the South Y with his son Kevin. Both advanced to the rank of Black Belt Recommended in April 2002. Mr. Green achieved the rank of 1st degree (decided) in July of 2007. 

Mr. Green is the Administrative Assistant to Master James, webmaster for the club website and is also a member of the State of Iowa Black Belt Association.

 

 

Mr. John Nelson is a 1st degree black belt (Decided).  He started martial arts with James TKD at the South Suburban YMCA in  March of 2005.  Mr. Nelson achieved the rank of black belt 1st degree (decided) in December 2009.  His daughter Alexis started with him and got to the rank of green belt (2 stripes) before deciding to concentrate on school team athletics instead of martial arts.  His youngest daughter Alayna is involved in the Lil Ninja's program and loves it.  Mr. Nelson is a current member of the State of Iowa Black Belt Association and looks forward to many years with the club.




Mr. Samuel George is a 1st degree black belt (Decided) and achieved that rank in July of 2006.


Mr. Robert Allison is a 1st degree black belt (Recommended) and achieved that rank in July of 2007.  

 

 

 

Ms. Amber Allison is a 1st degree black belt (Recommended) and achieved that rank in July of 2007.
