Switch to solar Hot water project

In 2008 Jamberoo FutureCare are embarking on this exciting project to encourage Jamberoo towards becoming a "solar neighbourhood". We are first focussing on solar hot water, as water heating is the biggest energy user in NSW homes. Electric hot water systems account for more than 30% of household energy use and produce an average 4 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year. We can significantly reduce Jamberoo's ecological footprint by making the switch to solar hot water,  AND save money by being part of our group's SWITCH TO SOLAR project.

The first stage is a doorknock survey of town residents which we are planning to carry out during April and May. Rural households will recive the survey in their mailboxes. The survey is aimed at providing a summary of what type of water heating  households are currently using, and Jamberoo's attitude to switching to renewable energy technology. Click here to view the survey.

There will be an information evening in June to present our findings, and launch the SWITCH TO SOLAR program. There will be speakers and discussion panels covering the benefits and cost savings of solar hot water, government rebates, RECs, and a Jamberoo community discount for solar hot water systems. Manufacturers will present their products and answer questions.
