- My personal web pages started partly as a list of my favorites online I
could access from any online computer, before there were services
specifically designed for that, and that also became part of Jackslist. Originally I used computer bulletin boards and then Yahoo to store information.
Jackslist originally started as a list of local computer groups,
on paper, before the Internet was widely available, before Computer
User Groups or individuals could get on-line easily, then on Computer
Bulletin Boards, and as a web page for about 15 years (as a subdomain
at first, in the early 1990's, before jackslist.com was purchased) When I first added Rochester Company informational Websites, there was no Google, eBay had not bought eBay.com yet, and I only found about 20 websites in Rochester - there was not much being sold online yet, the Internet was for education and information mostly, and AOL was still a separate service apart from the internet. I used dial-up on a '386 system! I added the Rochester Companies with job listings, educational links and employment links when I knew part of my job was being replaced (by the internet and on-line databases and publishing) - I knew well in advance and joined a local employment assistance group. in the late 1990's. This is much easier than the original editing of websites I had to do. Editing this Google site is just like typing a document, no coding by hand needed. info coming: Links to Computer User Groups: 1. On RocWiki.org 2. See WikiPedia.org |
