GOALS This class will introduce you to the concepts of web design, from writing HTML using a text editor to using programs such as Dreamweaver, Gimp, and Flash to create web sites. We will use CSS to organize and format our web sites. If you are on a Windows Machine you will use Notepad++. On a Mac you can use Text Wrangler. REFERENCES In the interest of conserving paper I will not be handing out copied references. Here are a couple of reference sites: o http://www.w3schools.com § This is a great site that has very readable tutorials on a variety of web design topics. o http://www.w3.org § This is the World Wide Web Consortium. It includes a code validator we will use. o If you prefer a reference book, then I recommend: § HTML, XHTML, and CSS, Sixth Edition: Visual QuickStart Guide, by Elizabeth Castro (ISBN#0321430840). This is a very readable book with good examples. § HTML for the World Wide Web Visual QuickStart Guide: With XHTML and CSS, Elizabeth Castro (ISBN#0321130073) sells on WWW.half.com for 75 cents plus shipping. SUPPLIES - You are expected to have the following materials for this class: o A USB flash drive (under $10) so that you can back-up the programs from your computer. o Headphones (ear buds) for listening to tutorials or sound files. o An email account. GOAL · Our goal is to produce a yearbook that both the staff and the school will be proud to call their own. This yearbook is not just another class assignment that will disappear once it is graded. This is the real deal; your work will live on for years. SOME RULES TO LIVE BY · Since this will be produced for sale you cannot use copyrighted photos or plagiarize text. · Keep food and open containers on the counters, not on the tables with computers.
