Rule Change for 2011-12  USA HOCKEY BOARD OF DIRECTORS ADOPTED A RULE CHANGE AT ITS ANNUAL CONGRESS IN JUNE THAT MOVES THE ALLOWABLE AGE FOR FULL-BODY CHECKING IN GAMES FROM THE PEEWEE (11-12) TO BANTAM (13-14) LEVEL.
Concussions are nothing to play with. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as many as 3.8 million concussions related to reaction and sports are estimated to occur in the United States each year. Although Football and basketball, in particular contribute to the highest number of estimated head injuries treated in U.S. hospital emergency rooms, the physical nature of hockey make concussions a legitimate concern at all levels of the sport.
