NEWS

  • PRE-REGISTRATION FOR 2012-13 SEASON
    • FEBRUARY 11 THRU MAY 31, 2012
    • Changes in the Indianapolis hockey environment (available ice surfaces) means that it is more important than ever to reserve a spot for your son or daughter this upcoming hockey season. We anticipate being full and lack of available ice means we will be challenged with growth beyond our planned capacity. At the beginning of the 2011-2012 season, several of our levels had waiting lists. We were able to expand to meet the need; however, we may not be able to make room for additional players in the 2012-2013 season. For this reason, we are strongly encouraging IYHA families to secure their spots for the 2012-2013 season by pre-registering.
    • Please visit our REGISTRATION Page for all of the details.

Rule Change for 2011-12
USA HOCKEY BOARD OF DIRECTORS ADOPTED A RULE CHANGE AT ITS ANNUAL CONGRESS IN JUNE THAT MOVES THE ALLOWABLE AGE FOR FULL-BODY CHECKING IN GAMES FROM THE PEEWEE (11-12) TO BANTAM (13-14) LEVEL.

Concussions are nothing to play with.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as many as 3.8 million concussions related to reaction and sports are estimated to occur in the United States each year.

Although Football and basketball, in particular contribute to the highest number of estimated head injuries treated in U.S. hospital emergency rooms, the physical nature of hockey make concussions a legitimate concern at all levels of the sport.

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF A CONCUSSION

After a hard hit to the head the athlete will have a signs and symptoms which may include:

  • light-headedness

  • dizziness

  • fogginess

  • unsteadiness

  • headaches

  • fuzzy vision and more

The athlete must be promptly examined and not returned to practice or games.
