Update, August 17, 2009The work comes in three essential parts at this stage of the recruitment process. One part is to receive and evaluate who may be interested in our Associate Pastor position describe their backgrounds and preferences / emphases in ministry. A second part is to pursue further those candidates who pass the paper screening. This consists of reviewing sermons and written work, contacting references, and in a group setting sharing impressions. The third part of the work is to reach out to candidates for telephone interviews. The goal of finishing this recruitment sometime this fall is still embraced by the committee. So, all in all, there is much to be pleased about, and the committee very much deserves our thanks, best wishes, support, and prayers.
David Schofield, Search Committee Chair.
Update, June 29, 2009The Committee has been hard at work for the last three months since its formation on March 15, 2009. It has submitted IUCC‘s Local Church Profile to the Southern California-Nevada Conference of the UCC, posted the ad for the Associate Pastor on the UCC National Job Listings Board and produced a Prospectus on IUCC for interested candidates for the position.
The committee has begun reviewing Ministerial Profiles for consideration on June 10th; we have received 21 Profiles thus far. We continue to receive 10 profiles on average every two weeks. I anticipate beginning the process of phone reference calls and phone interviews with candidates the Committee finds an interest in soon (as well as continue to receive new profiles). We have begun to experience different summer vacation schedules of members on the Committee which will slow down our ability to meet in person and discuss the candidates; however, we will review profiles individually and be able to compare notes when we are able to meet again as a whole.
This is a very time consuming process. It takes prayerful consideration of each member of the Committee. Please keep us in your hearts and prayers while we work through this process.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Dave Schofield, Committee Chair.
Update, May 4, 2009 The Search Committee for an Associate Pastor met on April 22 after doing much committee work as individuals, according to David Schofield, Committee Chair. The task with which they were very busy involved drafting, then agreeing upon, is a "Church Profile" for IUCC. The Profile is an extensive document that captures much in the way of "just the facts" information, but also asks for somewhat subjective information. On one hand, for example, the Search Committee must report on the latest demographics of Irvine and Orange County, and on the last three church budgets. On the other hand, the Committee is asked also to define the "leadership style" preferred by the congregation.
It's tricky.
We are glad that the job is in good hands!
With a completed Profile, the Search Committee can work with our Southern California- Nevada Conference of the United Church of Christ on the recruitment process itself. Candidates are given access to the Profile to figure out goodness of fit as between them and us. We are given similar individual Profiles, in the bargain, so that in our turn our Committee can discern goodness of fit between IUCC and various potential Associate Pastors.
Your prayers and support for the Committee are very welcome!
