Unit Summary-

In our last unit we analyzed literature through many filters such as tone, diction, detail, point of view, organization and syntax. When we used tone to analyze literature we were able to see what kind of feelings the author was trying to get across with his literature. When we analyzed a piece of literature using diction we were able to see the authors word choices and how they words he chose compliment the tone of the story. The diction of the story was also use to compliment the details of the story such as the time of day, the year, the surrounding's etc.  When we analyzed a story using the point of view filter we were able to see that perspective the story was written in such as 1st person, 3rd person, or 3rd person omniscient. When we looked at a story through its organization we were able to see why the author said certain during key events that cause suspense or foreshadow. The syntax filter is similar organization filter, the difference is that instead of looking at where things are placed throughout the story, we look at how often punctuations or words are repeated. With syntax we basically look for patterns the author has used. If you use all of these filters to analyze a piece of literature you will find many completely different means behind the piece of literature you analyzed.
