The project - Folklore - United - Nations was a two year project involving three schools, one in Martina Franca in Italy, one in Vogar in Iceland and one in Konya in Turkey. Many students and many teachers in these schools were involved in the project and some of their work can be seen on this website. A lot of pictures have been gathered in three attached webalbums and hopefully everyone involved in the project will enjoy looking at these pictures in times to come.

There were four meetings held during the project, two in Martina Franca, one in Vogar and one in Konya. In these meetings a lot of work was done but they provided oppurtunities for the participants to get to know each other and learn about different cultures and establish a lasting friendship across borders. That among other things was the purpose of this project.

The very interesting Comenius project – Folklore United Nations – came to an end at the last meeting in Martina Franca on May 11th 2011. The participants from Iceland and Turkey arrived on the 7th and the 8th and stayed at the Rococo Hotel in the Historic Center of Martina Franca – Citta Della. At nine o´clock on the 9th there was a welcome meeting in Scuole Elementari 1 ° Circolo "G. Marconi. We were greeted by headmaster Anna Maria Leo, Aurelia Auspeci and many other people that were known to the visitors. After having exchanged greetings and some gifts the work started. Aurelia, Marc, Hannes and Hulya started on the final report and Pina, Ugur, Feysa and Helgi worked on the website.

In the group from Konya there were five students  14 and 15 years old boys. They got the opportunity to go to classes with their Italian counterparts.

The work went on for two days but there were also time for excursions and social meetings. The Italian students put on a Comenius show that was really remarkable. The teachers had prepared a very lively program with music and dances. It was great to hear the students sing in all the languages and the costumes were fantastic as were the songs and dances.

We think that everyone will agree that most of the aims that were set out in this projects have been met. All that is left is to thank everyone involved in the project for their efforts. Especially Aurelia, Marc and Hulya who have led the work. And of course all the teachers and students because without their participation and devotion the project would not have been this successful. Lastly but not least all the administrators of the schools have to be thanked – they have all the time been very supportive and have helped to ensure a positive outcome of the project.
