Italians of Central Oklahoma Scholarship Information
TO: Members of the ICO:
Recognizing that our children represent the greatest potential for the propagation and preservation of our Italian American cultural, values and heritage, ICO offers secondary accredited institution of learning scholarships.
Scholarships will be granted to the applicants who demonstrate the best combination of scholastic achievement, service (school, community and extra curricular), essay, good moral character, and motivation.
Requirements: The attached Application and Biographical Information forms are to be used by the applicants. These forms will be used by the Scholarship Committee to help determine who is awarded scholarships. The forms are self-explanatory and the information submitted will be kept in strict confidence. We would appreciate your copying and distributing these to interested members who are parents, grandparents and/or guardians of eligible applicants.
ICO is pleased to assist promising young applicants from our club, especially in view of the rising costs of higher education.

Tel: (405) 642-7956 REQUIREMENTS FOR SCHOLARSHIPS 1. An Applicant must be: a. A citizen of any country. b. Current graduating high school senior who has applied for addmission to a secondary accredited institution of learning. c. A child or grandchild of a member in good standing with ICO. d. A Full-Time Student according to the school’s minimum requirement for “full-time” status.
2. An Applicant must submit the following: a. A completed Application and Biographical Information Form (see below). b. A letter of recommendation from one school authority describing the student's activities and leadership records in high school as well as description of personal character, initiatives and home background. c. A letter from the applicant's parent, grandparent or guardian. d. A letter from the president of ICO as to the applicant sponsor's membership standing in the club. e. Applicant must submit an original essay of 500 words or more. Essays must be typewritten and double-spaced. Essays may be about Italian music, art, the theater, inventors, any city of Italy of special interest, distinguished past or contemporary person (Italian or Italian desent).
3. Applicants must have their high school submit the following: a. An official high school grade transcript. b. The test scores from their Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or the Ameriican College Test (ACT), or equivalent. c. Grade Point Average (GPA), Rank in class.
The recipients of the scholarship will be notified by mail. The Club will arrange direct disbursement of the award to the attending institution upon official notification from that institution of the student's enrollment in that secondary accredited institution of learning. Decisions of the Scholarship Committee will be final in the selection of scholarship recipients.
THE COMPLETED APPLICATION PACKET MUST BE RECEIVED BY FEBRUARY 5, 2010.
NOTE: ALL OF THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET, OR IT WILL BE CONSIDERED AN INCOMPLETE APPLICATION AND WILL NOT BY JUDGED BY THE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE.
