ISNE Annual Conference: Limerick 2009

About

The Irish Society of New Economists (ISNE) was formed to encourage research, information
and social links among economists at the early stages of their careers in Ireland.  The annual
conference is intended for anybody in the early stages of research - eligibility to present has
nothing to do with age. We strongly encourage those working on economics-related research
in all settings to present.

Originally known as the Society of Young Economists in Ireland, the Society was formed in
October 2001 to enable collaboration between new economists from both business and academia
in Ireland. The inaugural session was run in Trinity College, Dublin in October 2001. During
this session a committee was elected consisting of Ronnie O’Toole of Trinity College as Chairman,
Claire Hurst of University of Limerick as Vice-Chair, Christopher Sibley of Trinity College as
Secretary and Wiepke Wissema as Treasurer. An early meeting of the Society was held on the
23rd February 2002 in NUI Galway, organised by Sarah Callanan. More background information
on ISNE is provided here by the Irish Economics Association.

In 2006, Dr. Ronnie O'Toole, Dr. Micheal Collins and Dr. Liam Delaney re-launched the Society.
This led to annual conferences being held in the UCD Geary Institute (2007) and NUI Galway (2008).
Liam Delaney, Martin Ryan, Peter Carney, Christian Danne and John Cullinan have helped with
organisation of the annual conferences since 2007. This year, Dr. Stephen Kinsella and Dominic
Trepel are hosting the 2009 conference at the University of Limerick. The organising committe
for the 2009 conference can be contacted by emailing isne2009@gmail.com
