MAKE A BIGGER SPLASH BY BECOMING A USA SWIMMING ATHLETE
IMPORTANT NEWS for the 2011-2012 Swimming Season
USA Swimming Registration and Meets for the 2010-2011 IROCKETS Season USA
Swimming is the national governing body for swimming in the United
States. It is the same organization that Michael Phelps and top
swimmers belong to, so if you love swimming and competing, this is
something you definitely want to consider. Being a USA Swimmer also makes athletes eligible for competitive events sponsored by the New England Swimming Committee and its 100 swim clubs throughout the New England area. As our IROCKETS swimmers keep raising the bar for our team, it is becoming more important to start introducing them to USA Swimming and give them opportunities to take their swimming to the next level. Competition in USA Swimming spans all age groups, so no one in the IROCKETS Swim Team is too young to participate in the USA Swimming meets that we will be attending this season.
REGISTERING YOUR SWIMMER as a USA Swimming Athlete (deadline for new memberships 10/13/11; for renewals 11/10/11): In order to participate in USA Swimming meets this season, our IROCKETS Swimmers must be enrolled as USA swimmers. The registration fee is $65/year per swimmer, and by registering, your swimmer will be eligible to participate in USA Swimming events for the remainder of 2011 and all of 2012. (NOTE: The USA Swimming fee is in addition to the normal IROC fee for the 2010-2011 swim team season.) USA Swimmers also receive access to the USA Swimming website, which has a wealth of tips for swimmers at all levels, along with a subscription to the official magazine of USA Swimming...SPLASH!
We ask all parents/guardians to reach out to Teresa Sinel at IROCKETSVT@aol.com to enroll your swimmers as soon as possible so that we can attend our first USA Swimming meet this fall. Please see Teresa in the IROC lobby during swim practice from 10/4 through 10/13 to sign up your swimmer for USA Swimming. Your swimmer will receive their USA Swimming Card approximately 2-3 weeks later. Swimmers must have their cards with them at every USA Swimming event to be allowed to compete.
2011-2012 USA SWIMMING MEETS:
Oct 21 - GMA at St. Michael's (IROCKETS tentative on attending this meet) DIRECTIONS AND MEET FEES: As we get closer to these events, more information including directions and meet fees will be provided. Most meets have a $5-$8 admission fee plus $4 per swimming event. Total fees for a swimmer who participates in 3 events plus admission will usually not exceed $20 per meet.
