Many of you have asked for more information about the Hedera Swim Camp at Dartmouth College, particularly as it relates to swimmers' safety. Parents who had swimmers in last year's camp were very satisfied with the safety and security provided by the Dartmouth Coaching Staff and Camp Counselors. The ratio was 1 adult for every 8 swimmers, the dorm was locked to outsiders at all times, counselors had rooms that were positioned strategically in each dorm wing, and no swimmers were allowed to go off on their own at any time. Boys were on the 1st floor, girls on the 2nd floor, and the camp was well chaperoned the entire time.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask Teresa, Trish, or Coach Peter for our feedback. We will be most happy to answer your questions. Coach Jim Wilson at Dartmouth also invites parents to call him directly (Teresa did that last year - got him on his motorcycle!), so you can take advantage of that as well. Last year, three of our swimmers (Adam, Emma, and Sarah) participated in the annual Hedera Swim Camp at Dartmouth College and we know that many of you are interested in joining them this June.
Hedera Swim Camp is an overnight camp designed for swimmers aged 10 to 18 and focuses on swim/stroke techniques, dryland training, stretching, starts, turns, and so much more. Swimmers from all over the country have participated in this popular camp for the last 17 years and we would love to see more IROCKETS join in this year!
This is a highly organized camp that is well-supervised and well chaperoned 24 hours a day with a ratio of 1 coach to 8 campers. Jim Wilson, head coach of Dartmouth's swim team, his assistant coaches, and a number of Dartmouth swimmers do a wonderful job of creating a safe, fun, and welcoming atmosphere for swimmers who want to learn more and do more.
At the orientation on Day 1, Jim Wilson and his swim staff put parents at ease with a highly informative discussion about their goals for your children, a run-through of the week's events, and a review of the daily itinerary which builds in a lot of pool time as well as some recreation outside of the pool as well.
